Deb--Maybe, they don't know WHAT to say, when ya blow them away, or are jealous.. but they can...relate to you more when you are "just alright".... ya know? And feel comfortable, being more on a level with you, then when you blow people completley away. ok, never mind.

I would rather talk to someone that sucked:) then someone better than me:)

I am soooo self conscience and in an instance like ritisroo mentioned you know its sincere. When I sing I feel exposed and vulnerable I hide nothing and if someone does't like it I take it very personally. I hope that did'nt come off too deep or artsy fartsy.

Ronda

That definately makes sense! It takes a long time to open up! I was like that when I first started singing....and I still hold back for fear of hitting a bad note or ruining the song and getting laughed at :) It is definately a very vulnerable position :)

well usually i just think... hmmm ok thats it, thats the one, post it, lol then half hour later when i have a listen. i think gesh! why the hell did i put that on, then i quickly click over to the delete button. lol

the good thing about this site is there is quiet a few good singers on here, and listening to them, helps me learn different techniques, not just in recording techniques but also in breathing control, timing pitch, etc etc, when i first came to a website singing, i thought i was ok, how quickly i learned i wasnt, but since then i'm hoping ive improved a tad more, music is an ongoing learning progress that never end, im sure we all learn something everyday from other singers on here that later in the day helps oursleves, i know it does me, so i'm happy to be always learning, and enjoying the process along the way :)

Y'know, Gilly... I had thought about that before. Like if a guy sings and I like it, I'll go compliment him (which really irritated my fiance at the time, who is now my ex, btw) but I won't go outta my way to say anything to a chick who I think may sound better than me. I did, however, compliment this one girl I was in a contest against. She beat me, and I told her she was really good. She told me I was good as well, and that she had been worried about no one else beating her but me. But, you've made a good point. Maybe I will start complimenting people I really don't enjoy listening to just to see what happens.

Call me weird but if somebody is just that good I think your a little selfish if you don't let them know c'mon give up the props...but maybe that's just another facet of my self depricating personality!!!

Well where I come from if you're a " bad singer" means you're good.

" Hey, this dudes a bad singer"
" Man that song was bad"
" That was bad the way he sang that song"

Once again we have to laugh at ourselves, not take ourselves seriously.

I was singing in a club in Tennessee when some guy yells up:

"Man that was really bad" and I yelled back,
"Thank ya brother, bad to da bone"
Everybody laughed and the show went on.

Look at the bright side, if you're bad you're good.

What really annoys me is when I am singing something and I think it sounds pretty darn good to me (like if I sang it before and it wasn't so hot) and then I sit back down and you can hear the crickets... but other times, when I'm singing rather crappy or just mediocre, strangers and people I know will come over to me and say, "Wow, that was really great, blah blah blah." Makes me wonder if I should even bother TRYING to sing. Sheesh.

Deb, I think sometimes when you've really done a great job that people assume that you already know it and that's why nothing is said. I know I've been guilty of it. There's that assume word again...I know I'll be more careful to give kudos on a job well done.... :)

BTW, when in the world are you going to post a song for us? Or have I missed it?! :?

Which brings me to Miss Milo...

I was unable to do your music last night. i need to go out and buy a new set of headphones. AGAIN. And then, i will finish.

but, my point holds true. i don't care WHERE you go off. I simply LOVE the tone of your voice, so rich, and mellow. Grabs me. i like it.

roo- i would be interested in vocal lessons... but, hey, i have no desire to... achieve anything with voice. i would die to go back to playing brass again.. but, in voice? i KNOW it is my weakest point. And... well. i havent' the money for lessons... plus, you know me, i can't sing in front of people:) lol

Shew, a reprieve! Bless your cat! No, really, I'm looking forward to it....yes...i...am....

Ya know, I really don't have a big desire to do much with mine either. I like to play around and stuff, but to work hard at it like Ritisroo...it will never happen. I'm just not that interested (or maybe I'm just lazy, that's probably it). I really admire people that do though. It's hard work and ya gotta have that along with the talent.

jeanne- Lol, it won't be that bad.. you nut, you know, justy listened to it, with the headphones BEFORE the cat finished them off, and he thinks you are nuts, because you are awesome. Gawd, you are. (Don't I sound a little TOO in love with you though?lol)

Yep, Gilly, that was my 10,000 Maniacs sub *elsewhere* but I haven't subbed anything here yet. Long story, really, but goes along with the ex fiance. He kept most of what we bought together, so I don't have a decent mic anymore. However, I'm currently hunting for one that was better than our previous one. It was starting to fizzle out near the connector so I guess he'll have to buy a new cord. Bah, I just wanted to complain. Hope you all don't mind. I feel sooooo much better now. :?

I have my *elsewhere* subs stored on my laptop though... so I might just have to use 'em one of these days.

For me, even if it never happens that I get signed, or a record deal....that is not important to me. I love my life, and really have no desire to change....it would be hard for me to take a deal, although I would be stupid not to take something.

For me, it is more of a personal thing. I need to be good for myself. I can't stand not being able to do something. I will try and try till I can do it. Even if it takes years, I will win a competition one day LOL!

I totally respect all of you that do this for fun. It is supposed to be that. Fun. If I was not so competitive with myself (if that makes sense), I would not be taking lessons or anything either. I don't want my life to become one big competition....stress...I sing cause I enjoy it....and hopefully one day get the perks of having to always do something I love...and make money off of it LOL!

And, if I never get a deal...I am just happy that I am the best I can be...and can sing and have a good time...can't wait to have kids to sneak into the bar for karaoke LOL!

deb--Hey, I have a couple of yours on MY laptop too:)

hey, i wonder if justin could be classified as an ex fiance.. even if we are still together... he DID propose, a LOONG time ago, I accepted, have the ring to prove it.. but then we removed it, a year or so later, and decided to never marry... so, TECHNICALLY, he is my.. "Ex" fiance:)

Ooooh:)

I agree with the "fun" part, ritis. I enjoy it as well... but I have been in several karaoke contests just because a crisp $100 bill was involved. I've managed to acquire 3 of those so far. But I don't take lessons, although I have thought about it before. I sing 'cause it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, whether I sound good or not! My shower never complains

Gilly, I'm confused! (That didn't take much) Are ya married or not? My ex and I broke up several times throughout the course of our relationship. I don't know what the heck we're doing now. Being ignorant, I guess. Ah, c'est la vie...

Ya know? I think one of MY fears... is HAVING to always do something that I love.... because, with my personality, I quickly tire of it. When i DID play tbone, I had to travel around alot, my life got pretty stretched tight, with stress, and I had TOO many thins on my plate. However, now I miss not being ABLE to do all of that. (I dropped out of the university band when I got pregnant) And, Then, i decided to do portraits for other people, and not just for fun, but for money... and, now? i HATE TO DRAW> hate it. I hate b*tchy whiney people bossing me around and taking advantage of me. I used to love to teach, and then, did it for money, (clinics, and tutoring, etc) and now I HATE it.

I think, lol, if by some strange thing, I decided to pursue singing... i would eventually hate it.

I hate doing things i LOVE for money. I hate MONEY. (except when I need it for bills....) Ok, done.
