The best part rits is that you're learning a lot with her. And the fact that she comes to listen to you at competitions is just exceptional. Sounds like a very caring person. Hold on to her!

That would be my worst fear!!

Gilly wrote: Ok,... if a "Bad" singer, listens to their own recordings, do they enjoy them? I mean, hell, i can't even listen to my own stuff, 'cept for afew things, mainly duets. I am not a fan of my own voice, although, I generally like it WHEN i sing, just not recordings of it. Not my style. ( that sounds funny:) So, if OTHER people snicker behind their backs, etc.. what the heck is the "bad singer" thinking when they listen to themselves... , can a self confessed BAD singer tell me this?! I mean, I have recorded my husband before (and some of you have heard him) and he can hear himself, and WINCE... but, he hasn't a clue WHILE he is singing it. I am just nosy. Any answers? Justy and I are VERY curious.... because, I can understand how someone singing live might not notice how bad they are... but what happenes when they hear a RECORDING?! (like, when I hear myself on teh ansering machine and scream "is that me!?)
I generally hate hearing myself, but when I really get it down well, I can tell from hearing a recording played back. Was I flat? Was I sharp? Was my tone too light? etc...
I would much rather hear myself (on a recording) doing something well, than when I can tell I could have done much better.

Gilly, the answer is simple, but in no way comprehensible to US.
The are in SERIOUS denial.
And they are tone deaf. And there is this one guy YOU KNOW about from ANOTHER place far far away that fits this category to a T.
These people are mentally ill.
And they like to stab at us with their voices, convinced they are THE BOMB DIGGITY. I met more of these than I ever imagined could exist at American Idol this year- so many people that cant sing, but wanting it so bad just WILLING their voices to sound great- very sad actually.
These people actually embody my greatest fear- because obviously no one is telling them that they suck- SOMEONE is telling them they're great, and they BELIEVE the LIE- my greatest fear is that I am ONE OF THEM .
That fear will wake you up at night in a cold sweat for sure!!
Ew. And shower.

I don't think you have to worry! When you have the AI Producers telling you that you would be their next idol...but you were just a tad to old from what they were looking for....I would be counting my blessings every minute
You are so lucky to be as talented as you are I would give anything to sing like you!

Amen... I've asked myself exactly the same thing many a time.

Heather Davis Says
These people actually embody my greatest fear- because obviously no one is telling them that they suck- SOMEONE is telling them they're great, and they BELIEVE the LIE- my greatest fear is that I am ONE OF THEM .
What you said is the main reason I never seriously pursued a career in music!!

I think when it comes down to it, especially when you are talking with people in person, you will never be lied to. And if they are lying...you probably will be able to tell If they enjoy your singing, they will let you know. It is the best feeling in the world, I tell ya Strangers are the best because if they like you....they will usually make a point of coming up to you and letting you know
I was singing Losing Grip by Avril....and I finished singing and sat down at the table. Then, a couple more singers got up and sang....and this guy comes up to me and says....was that you singing awhile ago? I said, yes....and he said, "I did not even know karaoke started. I thought it was the radio"....I was so flattered!

What really annoys me is when I am singing something and I think it sounds pretty darn good to me (like if I sang it before and it wasn't so hot) and then I sit back down and you can hear the crickets... but other times, when I'm singing rather crappy or just mediocre, strangers and people I know will come over to me and say, "Wow, that was really great, blah blah blah." Makes me wonder if I should even bother TRYING to sing. Sheesh.

I am soooo self conscience and in an instance like ritisroo mentioned you know its sincere. When I sing I feel exposed and vulnerable I hide nothing and if someone does't like it I take it very personally. I hope that did'nt come off too deep or artsy fartsy.
