can you guess, upon the first time you meet someone, without knowing anything about them, can you guess how well or even if they can sing? are there any signs...without them giving you a song slip. like they're walking up to the KJ booth and you've never seen them before. nothing's in their hands. can you tell or guess correctly if they can or can't sing or how well
that's gotta be impossible
i've been pleasantly surprised many times

Normally I don't like to say something is impossible, but ya I would agree with you.

I had an older woman give me a song request of "Folsom Prison" and I figured she would sing it an octave higher....... nope she sang it like Johnny would and hit every note! I never saw her again.

i'll say this, i think the name is ashley, every chick, black or white named ashley has been a good karaoke singer so far. haven't met one yet that couldn't carry a tune. at my venue at least 4-5 different ashleys have come through over the years black and white. i think that's the name.

I agree. I had an Ashley with an award winning voice.

There is a trend in karaoke, not many newbies will notice, but the pros catch on quick...
Many singers by the same name seem to sing the same songs... it's very odd but trending...
so if you have a George in your singers list, chances are they have Elvis or even Neil diamond in their playlist.
if you have a deborah in your list... chances are you have Patsy cline in their list.

I've had 1 Ashley, I think, ever. She's a pretty good singer. Still shows up now and then.

But close with Last Name Wreckers - Leave The Pieces Jackson, Janet - Doesn't Really Matter Underwood, Carrie - Last Name Pussycat Dolls & Will.i.am - Beep Heart - Alone Jackson, Janet - Together Again

The one thing I've found to be true, and I'm probably 99% accurate on this. The person who comes up to me and tells me that they're signed with a record label or they're gonna rock this, or some other bragging before they sing. This person is generally gonna suck.

And don't forget, that person is usually drunk when he/she comes up to you and says that.

I have 8 Ashley's in my database, 2 of them have ever sang Before He Cheats. 1 was long enough ago that my program wasn't even tracking that actual count yet, the other only sang it 1 time last time being 2 1/2 years ago. 2 Georges - no Elvis or Neil Diamond - lots of Sublime & Pantera for one, the other is George Jones & Keith Whitley type stuff. 15 Debby/Debbie/Deborah variations - none have Patsy.

I have one guy, absolutly looks like a rocker who comes up and requests I will survive (the Gloria Gaynor version). I assume it is a joke or something his friends put him up to. Nope. Nailed it -- and now gets requests from others for him to do it if he does not put it in.
So, I have given up and trying to guess.

Actually, I used to make a game of it with friends, and was almost always right, and never off by much. I think part of why is that I coached for years, and learned to tell by someone's neck/face/throat shape, posture, body language, and if I hear them speak, game over, I know within 90% accuracy what they'll sound like and can even pick a similar artist before I have heard them sing a note.
