Ok, was just cruising around Karaoke.net. The site is pretty generic, at this point. Light blue and white scheme. Very Spartan. There are sound bites for almost all the songs. Very cool.

There are already a whole bunch of songs, in many different categories. As for the quality of the songs, it is still kind of hit any miss, like Party Tyme has been. Some versions are really good, but others are rather bad. New York State Of Mind, for example, the piano is terrible, and the song seems drawn out and slow. I have the Zoom version of it, which I sing off of all the time. THAT version is spot on. For some reasons there are two versions of Give Me Something To Believe IN - Poison. One sounds like the SGB version, with that sudden, and extremely loud guitar scream. Not sure what that is all about.

The downloading scheme is a bit tricky. You add the song to your cart, pay for it with Pay Pal, the wait for an e-mail to download your songs from. It's too many steps for my liking. Hopefully that will be fixed.

I downloaded Holy Diver. The main body of the song is quite good, but the guitar solo is quite OFF. It is lower in volume than the rest of the song, overly compressed, and not well learned.

All in all, I will use this service, but it definitely needs improvement. Hopefully the site AND the music get better. I really want to seem KSF succeed.

i was also poking around, found a few songs that i will be downloading as soon as money permits.

I actually kind of like the minimalist look but i can see how it would not appeal to some people.

Was impressed with the range of songs they have up so far, incuding the silly/obscure songs like "do the bartman" that made me laugh.

music wise i'd say... 7.5 out of 10. Not terrible by any stretch of the imagination, but there are a few that could have been done quite a bit better. Altho i will say all the oldies songs i listened to, which is kinda my niche were spot on

will definately be adding this site to my list of go-tos

checkout process could be vastly improved but i was PLEASANTLY surprised to see that download tracks are only 1.99

overall, i would say a very solid start. Well done KSF!

My first choice for new downloads is SBI. The quality of their tracks is really good and they're reasonably priced. I am very happy with them. They will continue to be my #1 source. I have no reason to switch suppliers.

that's what i've been getting too. SBI but the customer support must not exist. I requested on pricing for their whole library and they never got back to me with any options.

I would like to see individual letters to go directly to a "D" artist or a an "M" songtitle instead of searching through entire genres. Genre searches are so generic & often wrong - I found * Godsmack * under "hair bands"!! NOT!!!! And massive typos at this time. I ordered a custom disc to try out. We'll see what the turn around time is.

I just registered and started to glance at their site. I was on the FRONT PAGE tab (where they have New Songs listed), and I am experiencing something weird. When logged onto my AOL and clicking on the hyper-link to preview a song, a small black box opens up and a sample screen materializes to show a sample of the song with graphics. The problem I am having is that the sample screen with lyrics is showing up off-center, so only half of that sample screen is visible, and the other half is cut off. However, when I open up my Firefox and login to the site to do the same thing, that sample screen shows up centered properly within the black box, and the preview appears normal.

Also, some of the previews were off (regarding the graphics). I viewed Billy Joel's "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me," and the first couple of lines flashed by too fast (no color change of the line and barely seeing the highlighted words for your cue to sing), and then it looks like it corrected itself for the rest of that sample (the next line would be white, and then change to green as it got to the point where you should be singing it).

In the FAQs:
Quote:
Q:My downloaded tracks won't work when burning them to a disc. Can I request a CDG in exchange?

A: "Unfortunately, once your order is placed we cannot replace the files with another format due to licensing restrictions."
I am curious about this particular question. Based on the choices given of MP3+G and MP4 (on their site), I would choose an MP3+G and then convert it from an AUDIO+G file to a BIN file, and then burn the BIN file to a disc. That has always worked fine for me. Seeing that question in their FAQs makes me wonder why that wouldn't work for others.

That's how it worked for me with SBI... I would pay for the song, and then they would send me an e-mail with the file, and then I would open it to download. How do some of the other sites do it?

I agree that being able to search by a particular letter would be nice.

Tricerasoft lets you download straight away, like KV does. You don't have to go to your e-mail. It is much easier. You make your purchase, then download the song. Speaking of Tricerasoft, I would like to see a credit system added to Karaoke.net. It's nice to buy a bunch of credits, then just pluck the songs you want as you want them. Just makes things quicker.

I was disappointed that there was no Alice In Chains or Pink Floyd! In fact there was virtually nothing from the big list posted here by KSF. I know it's an early sneak peek, but I was hoping to get new stuff early that nobody else has so that I could flaunt it and tell others they could get it too...next month.

I did buy Holy Diver, Snowblind, and Some Velvet Morning.

I'm hoping there will be daily additions in this early period that will include Alice In Chains, Rush, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, and so many others I'm anxious to have.

And hey, why didn't we get a campaign code or did I miss that?

The email I received today said:

The custom discs option is shown but will be operational in a week, so please limit your orders to downloads at this time.

So don't evaluate the turn around time based on this order.

They also limited tracks right now. With thousands more added in the next couple weeks. There are only 4500+ tracks listed on the preview

Which isn't a bad start, especially when you compare it to another company who will only have 12 songs to chose from if THEY ever start up, again.

Thanks for the feedback so far. We wanted to put up a limited version of the site while finalising the custom disc function etc. We will be addressing issues that you identify and suggestions you make as well as continually upload more and more content.

There are some comments on the quality of some of the tracks and I would appreciate a PM with any issues that you may find. Some of the Pocket Songs tracks are hit or miss even though they are remastered. We can certainly revisit any of the new productions and tweak the mixing so please let me know. In the event that we redo a track, it will automatically be emailed to any purchaser to replace the previous version.

This next week, we will be taking notes but not much action as the majority of our team are in transit to Singapore for the 13th annual Karaoke World Championships.

Thanks again

Michael

Hey, YOU mentioned the name. I just used another company as a comparison.

Thank you Michael. I forgot some of that is pocket songs. You should probably have an employee go through that whole catalog finding the bad versions and removing them, so you can either re-record them, or do whatever needs t be done to make them more true to the real songs. I was impressed that you have Insane in The Brain, by Cypress Hill. Pretty spot on, too.

There is a little "welcome" banner on the top right corner of the page. Click it, and it will take you to the store.

Lonman,

I have repaired the one song where Godsmack was incorrectly listed in the wrong genre. Others by them are correct under Rock Male. The website will import and correct data changes like this (from my original database) once every 24 hours only.

Also, can you please supply a list of typos that you as seeing? I'd like to correct as many of those as possible.

thank you,
Jeff

I signed up as well. I click the Welcome and it stays on the same page. I tried with Chrome and IE.
