Actually proof isn't all that hard. All you would need is past reciepts of when you were paid in full.. Now if you accepted cash then your SOL.

I had a feeling that the treatment you received was coming. Just be glad you only did
a couple of shows there. If he wanted a DJ he should have just hired one. I would have never
came back after the first time he short changed me.

@ BigBangKaraoke... you should have taken my suggestion of telling the owner to pay you up front, or you don't set up.

But he said he (or the KJ who worked for him) wasn't paid in full. So all in all, he has never been paid in full at that venue.

I'm kinda new at this. I've only been doing shows since 1997, but I've always used written contracts at any location. Same with parties, corporate events, weddings, etc. On track though, I did have one owner try to tell me how to run show, and I referred to the contract and told him that this is what we agreed to. He then wanted me to tell my followers (only about 30) to stop singing slow ballads and country music. I laughed and quit. He went out of business 2 months later after calling me at least once a day to come back.

Nice that you can get a signed contract. I've said this before, and I'll say it again. In my area, most venues will just say "Goodbye" to you if you present them with a written contract, and then hire the next person that may come along (without a contract).

Just a question. Does any venue have you carry liability insurance? That's one of the items in our contracts. When we perform weddings at some venues, they insist on us carrying 1M insurance, so we include that in all contracts for owners peace of mind. Just wondering if that happens in your neck of the woods. Kinda comparing areas of the country. Thanks for replying.

Gwalton... not that I am aware of. The KJs I know personally, do not carry any insurance. There are very few who I know of who at least carry some sort of insurance for their equipment and discs.
