In your opinion, what is the best system to take Karaoke song requests? Thanks!

For me, Song Slips

Yes... thanks for your response... I'm new at this... I was wondering are there out there pre-made song request sheets... or do I just make a format in Word and cut it up? I was also thinking of printing index cards... Am I making too much of this?

well, I got 6,000 of them from sound choice when I got my foundations. When I run out of them, I plan to go to a printer with the proof sheet they sent me and have some made. They can make them with a little strip of rubber on the top, like post-its. I understand they are fairley cheap.

Maybe before I run out They will come out with a foundations 3

also save them for your customers...... they love that saves them looking and writing.

I have created my own slips using publisher98 and print 8 slips per page. We are printing on the back side of our old song book pages and use a laser printer. So cost is minimal just time for cutting.

We save the slips for the singers so we go through less slips then some.

I do it one of several ways.

I have my own song page .pdf file on my website.

For permament gigs, I've printed the slips as business cards, on thicker card stock at a local printer. Get about 4-5,000 for $100.

I also buy slips from karaoke.com ... they'll occasionally run specials on them. They're not near as durable as even my regular printed ones, but they are in a gummed rip off package. And look good.

I make my own. Then send them out to my secret printer.
32,000 printed in color & cut $158.

You say you have yours gummed. I've just left my loose and in a pencil holder in the book and haven't had any problems. You seen any benifits of having them gummed?

I have a Word file with 9 slips on the page. Basically just run a bunch of copies and cut them. In each book I have a zippered pouch to stock the slips, a pen (without the cap) and some business cards.

At my Thursday house gig, they provide very nice slips in pads. Personally, I think we have more waste with them given all the beer spills and the like. I think people were also taking them home to use as notepads or something. I started to just tear a handful off of each pad and put those out on the tables.

Yeah I agree. I used to get them padded, while they look great, I actually lost more slips due to becoming personal notepads. With individual slips, some people are a little more thrifty with them - then you still have some that grab an entire stack, but still these are far less than the others.

Great ideas all around. I printed them up 8 to a page at Kinko's and cut them myself... pretty tedious. I thought about the business-card-on-the-back idea, but that sounds pretty expensive and they'd go faster. But I need to get the zippered pencil-pouch for my binders, sounds perfect.

What I did for the layout is to have a line for performer name(s), one for title, and one for code. Then at the bottom there's another line, underneath which it says "song you wish I had? using your own CD? want the key/pitch changed? let me know!" People can put any kind of comments on there, and it helps reduce frustration if they can't find their favorites, I think.

We keep our singer slips so when I need some slips I run off maybe 50 - 100 sheets and cut them using a paper cutter. Takes about 10 to 15 min.

the business card route hurts, but I gotta tell you, they look impressive as hell. AND for those that are keeping the singer's slips, it's doublelylylylyly impressive! !

card stock is much thicker, will forget the accidental absorption of some water or liquor, dries out and is fine... and people just are wowed by them.

yes, it's much cheaper to do the full page, print out ten of them, and cut them every night. but when all you do is reach in a big box and pull out a rubber band stack of business card-style song slips, it's really worth the effort.

We have an advertiser to pay for ours and they are gummed (we get 6,000 slips at a time) but we separate the pads as they are needed and put them in their place with the pencils and books. I'll try to upload some pics later.
