Karaoke Forums

I am looking to purchase a karaoke system for my family. We do not need anything really elaborate or extreme. I am just looking for something of decent quality, with atleast two microphone jacks. Also something that has a USB reader so that I can use the CD+G's that I previously purchased and have on a external hard drive. I am finding so many conflicting opinions. Would also consider something used if anyone knows of anyone selling. I have three little girls that are aspiring vocalists.

What's your general budget?

The basic setup would be two speakers, a mixer, and a computer. You can go all the way from plastic toys with the audio quality of a Teddy Ruxpin (excellent 80s reference!), to a full audio rack and a living room full of speakers and 200 lb subs.

Assuming you already have a computer you can use, plan on about $400-600 range for a solid PA system, but there are ways to skimp down from there if you need to.

Actually for home use, with the right speaker, you could get away with just buying one. My behringer 200W is sufficiently loud to fill my whole house with music.


If the computer has an HDMI out plug, then you can use any flatscreen tv as the output, and if not most modern TVs have a pc input *VGA*

If the original poster doesn't want to spent a lot of money, they could get a set of cheap computer speakers, the chances of them blowing are a lot higher, true but would not break the bank to replace.

The one thing I think EVERYONE in this forum will agree on is do not get suckered into buying a VOCOPRO all in one unit. They are VERY overpriced machines that are not worth the money.

Also if they are using a computer they will definately need a mini jack to either RCA or 1/4" to get the music into the mixer

The mini jack is the worst way to get audio from a computer to a mixer. You always want to use the USB whenever possible for best quality! For home use, I'd go with a USB mixer with a built-in soundcard for simplicity.

I agree 100% IF you are doing this professionally. This is just for their daughters. In my experience most families with young children can't afford to spend $600 on a hobby, no matter how enriching or educational it may be.

Built in sound has improved DRASTICALLY in the last few years ESPECIALLY for desktop computers. Would a usb connection be preferable? absolutely, and if they are willing to spend the extra money on a good USB mixer, more power to them, but i was giving the CHEAPEST setup I personally would be comfortable setting up.
