man I had such a great time listening to Rick Springfield when I was younger... not the babydoll "Jessie's Girl" but more the "Love Somebody" (the whole Hard To Hold movie) era.
His CD entitled "Living In Oz" had several hits on it, and he was considered less bubblegum and more "Rocker"... but it wasn't until his LP entitled "Tao" came out that he'd hit a zeneith of a sort...
His best writing was at that time... great musical stylings. He'd stopped concerning himself with being an idol, getting the girls... and rather just sat down and wrote his heart out.
"Dance the World Away" was about worrying about a nuclear Holocost.
"Celebrate Youth" was super upbeat that worried about children... possibly inheriting their forebearer's bad habits.
"State of The Heart" about love trying to survive with both people working opposite shifts. Yet both still in love with the other. Pressures of surviving becoming oppressive...
and on and on...
But what finally got me was "My Father's Chair"... a beautiful homage he did for his father. He'd tried for years to write a good song for him and this time it finally happened.
