I have never been a fan of Elvis. Thankfully, we don't have any Elvis impersonators at our shows. We also have a crowd that is young enough to have never been caught up in the Elvis hysteria.
The Beatles on the other hand are still popular with some singers at some venues.
Sinatra gets some airplay as well.

No love for The King, Chris? I've actually seen guys show up in the Liberace designed white jumpsuit and cape at a couple of shows. I've seen someone butcher Burning Love and still get young women up dancing out here - maybe because it's so cheesy it's good? I never got Elvis as a young guy, but I've actually come to respect the range of his voice and just look at all the movies he appeared in. Who has been as iconic since? I've had another Elvis singer confide his belief tbat Elvis is still alive and in a witness protection program after working for the CIA. It's crazy, but that's just how big he was.

I used to watch his movies when I was younger and he was still alive. But I was completely consumed by Star Wars when he died and no one in my family worshiped him the way others did back then. I haven't watched an Elvis movie since the mid-70's. I never listened to Elvis music when I was younger. KZEW in Dallas was the rock station I listened to and it played The Who, Beatles, Steve Miller Band, Kiss, etc. So that may be one reason why I never caught Elvis fever.

We must be about the same age Chris. I believe we are over the "date line" for Elvis worship by several years. I remember when he died, by neighbor friends Mom freaked out. Inconsolable. I didn't get it then either. He told me once that he told her a silly schoolyard Elvis joke and she sent him to his room without Dinner for offending the King. Seriously.

i started my radio listening about 1970 or so. Karaoke has been the bulk of my introduction to Elvis. I may have known 5-7 of his songs before that.
I don't judge him by his movie songs. Even he said they were mass produced crap. Still for any singer to appear as an actor in 31 movies is amazing.

We have two or three regulars who sing a lot of Elvis, and do it well. At our shows, a good rendition of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love" will always pack the dance floor.

Even when American Trilogy gets butchered the song still has the power to choke me up. I wish the synthesizer on the SC version wasn't so cheesy, but I'm still glad they did the song.

I was an Elvis fan for a couple years after he died. I was about 9 at the time. I knew a lot of Elvis because my dad was a big fan - not to the point of freaking out when he died or anything, just liked the music. I still like some of his Christmas Rock though! I prefer not to hear Elvis (along with many other stereotypical karaoke artists) but will not deter anyone from singing them. Luckily Can't Help Falling & Burning Love occasionally get done anymore. Neither are real crowd pleasers as a rule although Can't Help will sometimes get a couple on the dance floor. Blue Christmas does seem to get done every Christmas!

I like Elvis's version of 'Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland' with the big bump 'n' grind ending.

I have the 400 individual Elvis songs, and yes Lonman I have a regular who sings Elvis Costello. I have 230 individual Beatles songs. I have 81 individual Taylor Swift songs.
I got tired of counting, but I have a large number of all the artist listed in the above post.

Felix I have never had a song of hers sung. I don't know if I should be happy or sad about that

-James I have taken to doing that, singing obscure Elvis songs. There are just so many of these great song that nobody knows, and yes I avoid the really popular clichéd ones like the plague. And while Music Maestro sucked to the gills with a huge number of their karaoke tracks, the ones from the Velvet Elvis collection are amongst the best quality tracks out there. If other manufacturers have put out the same song by the King, you will often find that MM is your best bet!

Quote: I have never heard of this Elvis guy. Are any of his songs popular? Quote: No emoticon added ........ so I'll just ....... **sigh** Quote: "Novice Poster" so he may not know to use them? Sadly, it could be one of those who believe Kan(t)ye West is making this McCartney fellow famous overnight.
