I have a tendancy to do that when I wear headphones.
Maybe you're trying too hard not to go flat and too aware of it.

I don't know.. I sing with headphones on, and no moniter, I hate to hear myself in my headphones, but I don't have a tendancy to go flat. I actually can't hear myself at all when I sing, I just blast the music, and go with the sound I hear in my head.. but, I can sing with my head underwater too (no, not with my MOUTH underwater). But, i have run into a few singers online that had a lot of their problems with pitch stem from wearing headphones... Blah, i can never help people.... You should hear my husband sing Songstar... you think you are flat? Anyone can vouch for his outrageously BAD voice, and haven't been able to help him:)
I find I am most in tune, when I don't sing at all. At least, that is what my husband says:) ("Justy, does this sound alright?" - "You sound best to me when you sing with your mouth closed", and on it goes:)

Yes... I do have a few tips on pitch.
1. Try to relax your jaw and shoulders... tensing up can cause you to go off pitch
2. When you listen to your recordings and hear spots where you are having trouble with pitch over and over again, go back and slow the tempo WAY down (or sing without the music very slowly) that part over, note by note, until you get it right.
3. Another way to practice (of course) is to sing along with the original, replaying the parts you are having trouble with over and over, gradually turning the volume on the original down so you can hear yourself clearly.
Hope that helps

I find if I can't hear myself sing, I have a tendancy to lose pitch, so I would suggest making sure you can hear yourself clearly through your headphones too

If I can't hear myself, I lose pitch too. But, I think that mostly has to do with practice and training. I used to have to sing with a monitor to stay on pitch, now I can hear myself well enough through the speakers (when we're performing), or as long as I can hear myself over the music I'm ok.
Heck, most of the 'pop' stars sing with a headphone monitor... but hopefully I won't have to go that far Madonna might be able to pull that off, but I think I would get laughed at in a night club. heheh

Maybe what I said didn't make sense? I meant, I think I generally never have pitch problems, and I can sing without ever hearing myself, or listening to myself. I just can't hear with headphones on, and i CAN make it so that my program allows my voice to come through my headphones while singing, but I find it distracting. Because I had hearing problems, when I was younger, I have no problems singing, or talking, and losing pitch. is what I was getting at. I meant, I don't need to hear myself, to stay in tune.
Also, I was a horn player, that sat/stood in front of the TRUMPETS. I wore earplugs in orchestra, and bands, and accustomed myself to the faint noise of my own instrument, and always remained in perfect pitch.
Is this a problem many people have? Why can't you stay on pitch, with the sound you hear reverberating in your head, as you sing?
Ok, i am completely babbling, and my husband says I am making no sense, as he reads this over my shoulder as I type.
buh bye:)
