Monday night at my regular venue I got the chance to meet one of the members of the rock band "AMERICA". His name was Dewey Bunnel. Super nice and very funny guy. He gave us all the pleasure of singing a few of his songs, Ventura highway and Tin man and invited anyone up who wanted to sing along with him.
It turns out that he was visiting an old friend down here and was talked into coming out to sing a few songs. He is still a great singer and entertainer and was very accommodating to all of us. He signed an autograph or two and took a few pictures with folks.
Him and his buddy then went to the outside bar and I assumed they left as it was getting pretty late. About 30 minutes later after breaking down and taking stuff to my car I hear live music coming from the outside bar. I walk over and there is a small crowd of about 8 people gathered around Dewey and his friend who are playing guitars together. It was pretty cool and some us (including me)got to sing along with them for a few minutes.
All in all it was a special night. Sometimes being a karaoke host has it's perks!!!

Awesome! Most of us never get that that "brush with greatness".

America, one of my favorite ‘70’s bands. love to sing Sister Golden Hair & You Can Do Magic (both dk version).
Another song was Sandman, not a charting hit because the context of the song lyrics was not meaningful enough to some. I was told Bunnell wrote the song as dedication to Vietnam vets suffering from ptsd.
Nice to hear he’s ‘down to earth’ kinda guy.
