I thought it would be fun if the critiquers on the forum could give us their thoughts on some famous singers.

For instance, Willie Nelson...I love his voice, his songs, he's just one of my top singers, but I've read where his timing is always off and that he sings through his nose.

And Michael W. Smith if anyone has heard of him. My sister says he's ok, but she doesn't like the fact that he sings through his nose. I love his voice!

And let's see...what about Toby Keith? To me his voice isn't all that great, but I love to see him sing in his videos.

Are there any singers out there that you would classify as being a 'perfect' singer?

Well, the famous guy I would like to critique lives literally three blocks away from me, and I would hate to get into a squall with Mr. Aiken, being that his mom is such a sweetheart, so I'll just keep my mouth shut when it comes to Raleigh's wonderboy!

Any 'perfect' singers??? VERY very few. Um, Olivia Newton John would be one, Jewel is very close to perfect on the songs I've heard. Linda Ronstadt is another.

I'll come back and list some male singers in a little while - have to take my mom grocery shopping right now.

I for one would pay GOOD money to see Britney, Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, a few others have a REAL contest.... perhaps acapella... with their REAL voices and no techno-vocal-enhancing gizmos... and have SIMON as their judge!!! hoooo boy!!

I'd LOOOVE to hear what Simon would say!! !!

I know Ashlee's gotten flak lately, but I LOVE her voice....LOVE it, way more than her sister's, who from Day One has sounded like she's imitating Mariah Carey. That bugs me.

And Syber, I'm glad you listed who you think sings perfectly....that kind of info is extremely interesting to me. I have so many questions about singing in general. If you don't mind, what is it about those singers that makes them sing perfectly? I eat up this info like a sponge dude. My boyfriend saw Jewel live before she was really famous and he said her voice was so powerful they were blown away.

Oh and Christina Aguilera....I love her now too but it really took me awhile to get used to how her voice sounds...a lil different.

Well, it's going to sound really simple, but... 'pitch, tone, emotion, control, timing and power'. I would add 'range', but even having an extraordinary range doesn't make a great singer unless they can use it well. I'll probably think of other stuff later.

Also, those singers in particular, don't use a lot of processed effects to improve their voices. They can just belt it out acapella and (vocally) naked, and STILL sound great.

Male singers: Elvis (I don't really like Elvis, but he was one H#ll of a singer), Roy Orbison, Eddie Mercury (Queen), Ray Charles, Jim Morrison, Stevie Wonder... to name a few.

ive never heard of eddie mercury ol...freddy aye i have...personally i saw a live version of bohemian rhapsody and can't say i was impressed with the vocals...perhaps it was a bad voice day for him hehehe....but queen were pretty class soooo i can forgive the bad live version hehehe

I've never SEEN him live before, but I did hear an acapella recording of him one time and I was really impressed (that's why I included him). He had operatic training and everything... but, I'm sure he had bad days too. *shrug*

mY opinion of a perfect singer......teh onyl person that i coudl think of.........is REGINE VELAZQUEZ.....filipino singer.....the girl sings amazing live.....no effects....no nothing....she has the power.....the perfect tone....emotion.....when you think she siings high....she goes even higher after.....just plain AMAZING how that girl sings......

Tigger- I have never seen Jewel live, but, I have a gazillion recordings of her live (doing a lot of neat songs, that are incredibly hard to find) and, by golly the chicky has an amazing voice, and yuppers the power is incredible, even though most people don't think of her having that sorta voice. Lol, now I sound even MORE obsessed with her...

ooh, and I have heard many live recordings of Sarah McLachlan, and have had a lot of friends see her live, and I think she is amazing.... Besides them, I can't think of many others, although I can think of a gazillion people that are played on the radio that make me gag, and I happily critique them everytime they are played:) Justy usually complains too... but, he never stops complaining... he absolutely hates shania twains voice... the guy from five for fighting, and a gazillion other people (we went on a long drive today, and the ipod is in for repair, and the radio was on.. he b*tched and moaned aLOT) I have seen some recordings of Garth Brooks live, and he seemed pretty impressive, esp. with all of the running around...is he really singing? because, I am assuming he is, which makes everyone who makes excuses for britney NOT singing ridiculous, JUST because she dances around.
