look, the NO COMMENTS option is no different than the NO RATINGS option people enjoy now... some people like to be ranked... some don't... they have the option of having their sub rated or not... the options that phill is implementing are no different than that... I can b=go back and read thru many threads where suggestions have been made to phill by more highly thought of people than I... some of those threads were very heated also and options were added or not, depending on phill's decision, or the mods, to implement them... these are threads way before I was a member, so are they whiners too??? all those months of whining by them got changes made to the site too... and if I recall correctly, and phill can correct me here, PHILL REGULARLY makes posts about getting input and suggestions for the site... I am sure he enjoys wasting his time developing and working out bugs in the site to accomodate the whiners... if he didn't think these new options were of any value or benefit, or were just the rantings of whiners, he would just ignore the suggestions... obviously he has felt these changes would benefit more than just me and a few others who are looked down on because we don't follow the herd... it isn't easy writing and developing code to add to the site and make sure it doesn't crash or break anything else so if phill says he is going to create these OPTIONS then he must feel they have value or merit... I could be wrong on that and I am sure many will point it out if I am - tig

Phil,
Thankyou for your perseverence in trying to implement the suggestions from the many valued members here...
I for one like the idea of freedom of choice ...
In response to:
#1 Checkbox: Critique
I had originally suggested this option for one reason..To define between constructive critism and a pat on the back (fluff as some refer to it).
A singer would know what to expect in a comment given.
#2 Checkbox: No Ranks ... Change to Radio Button
I like your choices ... Everyone has the freedom for status quo or be selective in what they want
#3 Radio Button: Public or Private
This would be a valuable option for those who asked for a Critique.
I would like to respond to comments about Critiqueing..
1. There is no substitute for good professional vocal help .. it does come with a price tag ... not everyone can afford it.
2. If asked "am I singing on key?" I can answer yes or no.
3. If asked "is my timing correct?" I can answer yes or no.
4. If asked "how does my recording sound?" I have some room to give more than a yes or no answer.
5. Can I make suggestions on improving your voice ... no
6. Can I recomend any vocal coaches in my area ... yes
Thanks for all of your hard work Phil
I appreciate it
Thanks for all who are contributing to this thread
Cort

ahhh jeez let em have what they want...only them 3 likely to use the bloomin option, personally cant see why someone would wanna sub a song to get no feedback, might as well stick to the shower singing...but anything for a quiet life i say...they like sheep and follow each other ...i reakon they must all contact one another when a thread is put in the forum they can have a whinge at ....and we keep biting back at em! so give em what they want .... but then again sure they will find sommat else to have a go at.
it just strikes me dunno if anyone else has noticed...the only time knight and the 2 cats turn up is to offer negativity to the forum, they don't sub i dont think they listen...nor comment other than to whinge in the forum of how hard done by they feel....have you never thought guys that you got fluff in the begining from people cause people didn't want to tell you the truth, cause if they did tell you the truth you might feel hurt by it.....but ok i am now gonna stand on my own and tell all 3 of you the truth....and i am sure to get some (@$%!) back for doing it....but i dont care .......
all 3 of you have pitch problems...2 of you have trouble staying in tune through most songs ive heard...and my advice is all 3 of you would def improve with professional voice coaching.....and yes i have listened to all of you sing at one point in time.....i have commented on all 3 of you in the past and ive left what you would describe as fluff cause i felt as i do with most people that you worked bloody hard and gave it your best shot and i did not want to sit there and rip your songs and works to bits...the same as i wouldnt like mine ripped to bits....but ya want truth you got it! i know i personally hate giving honest critiques and i really do not feel that i am qualified to do so because there is sooo much improvement in my own vocals needed .... music is a personal thing and what sounds good to 1 person might sound (@$%!) to another....soooo you got my personal opinions and my honest critique now....better late than never....and because i have done it this way...i soooooo know i am gonna be in the gunfire!!!!

Ritisroo, I have offered honest comments on subs. It is not fair of you to make such blanket statements. Have you actually gone over every one of my, Tigrr's, and Matt's comments to people? And don't expect to post something such as "and as for you" to specific people and not expect anger in return.
What is the biggie dude; if you guys can keep your way, yet some of us can have a no comment option, what is the prob with that?
I thought you and I had a good rapport, girlfriend; what happened? Sorry you "hate" people such as us 3. I've always liked you, Casper, AND your singing, and I've always told you so.
And I've always liked you too Miss Milo.....I hope in echoing Roo's sentiments we're still buds who simply disagree about some stuff.

And I believe I've STATED time and time again that "I was off here", or "Had trouble with this one", etc.
I LOVE honesty. What I hate and despise are lies, even if they ARE trying to be kind.
Now you know why I have gotten so irritated at the fluff. If "I" can her it, I know others can.

Thank you from me too, Missy. Actually that took guts, being honest like that. And it is hard for the listener to hear, but if we want to improve, that is what we need.
I've suspected my pitch was off, but you know how hard it is to really know when you're so close to something. And I respect your opinion, because as I've commented on your subs, I love your singing. Remember that one, Lollipop I think...I told you I devour your subs, cuz I love your sweet and pure tone.
You're so lucky girl!!! Told you I wish I had your range.
Now, anyone else who wants to help me out, feel free....thanks you guys for being patient with my subs before. Why do you think my name is Tigger?! (Cat yowlings.)

the thing I love the most about Missy's post:
She made my point FOR me. There is NO better example of what fluff is, and why I don't want comments on my subs.
It's either that, or someone's trying to be mean spiritied. Being told now, almost a month after the fact, is just sad and almost pathetic. That couldnt' be the case now, could it?
There can be NO better reason to include this option now.

I think this is the part where I burst into tears cuz someone doesn't like my singing... or laugh because the fluff is out in the open finally... hmmm wonder which one I will do... the arguments, or whining as some put it, we make for the NO COMMENT option are no different than the arguements, or whining, that were made for the OPTION of members to not have their subs rated... why sub songs and not allow comments??? well, besides the fluff factor, I really don't care what anyone thinks about my songs or my singing I don't record for anyone but my pleasure... I am not looking for a record deal so any input you might have really is not needed... I sing for the enjoyment of it and if someone else wants to listen then GREAT, if they don't , then GREAT too... either way, I get the satisfaction of singing and recording without having to wade through the fluff charade... as it has been pointed out again, by others, that nothing changes for anyone who wants comments on their subs... lemme say it again cuz alot of people seem to miss that point- NOTHING CHANGES FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS COMMENTS... it is no different than someone clicking "yes" or "no" on the question "Rank this submission?" when you sub a song... if clicking on 1 or 2 more questions when ya sub a song is too much for ya then I really can't help ya... you do your thing and I'll do mine and I am pretty sure life will go on for all... phill is a pretty smart guy and I am sure if he feels these options, and the other options he is working on that HE designed (not from the group), have value to other members besides the 3 that are targeted here... if ya missed phill's post on option's he is working on here are the points:
webguru wrote: Now this is a very good thread... I am enjoying reading everyones input.
To fit in with this topic -
Here is what I am working on, can I get some feedback on each.
1) Checkbox: Critique. This is a box that the submitter would check to request valuable suggestions for improvement.
2) Checkbox: NO RANKS (already exists, and allows comments) - Change to Radio Button Select either NO RANKS & NO COMMENTS, NO RANKS with Comments, RANKS & COMMENTS, or RANKS & NO COMMENTS.
3) Radio Button: Select either Private or Public Comments. Private only submittor can read. Public is as it is currently.
Let me know what your thoughts are on these. I am currently in development of these functions and prior to implementing or completing your suggestions for improvement are desired...
PHILL
Now we only suggested the no comments function so you will have to figure out where the others came from and debate the value of them with them... matt and crystal said most everything else I could think of so I'll just end my post by saying, AGAIN, if a member doesn't want to use the option then don't... if a member wants to use the option then it is available for them... or maybe I missed something... - tig

I whole-heartedly agree...
oh and btw... for the record.... I DON'T intend on using the no comment button, HOWEVER.... I respect the fact that Tig and others WILL use it. It's their choice I'm just thrilled that they're going to be subbing again! I can't wait to hear 'em!
again... I don't want to use the feature as many of you don't, but I don't see the point in attacking Tig, knightshow, and Tigger about their decision... because I know that i don't have to use it... OR LISTEN to anyone who DOES use it for that matter! All I'm sayin' is... respect people's decision to use it.... It ain't gonna hurt any of us if they use it.
...and to elaborate on the point Tig made about the 3 people using it. I highly doubt that Phill would be going through all this trouble of changing his site for 3 measly people. I'm SURE he's gotta MANY a pm on the matter... I'm sure PLENTY of people out there like the idea... otherwise why would he go through the headache and complexity of making the change?? Tig, Knightshow, and Tigger aren't THAT special... you're giving them far too much credit!!
AND I'm sure the reason people choose to PM him about it rather than make their opinions known is for THIS reason EXACTLY.... cuz they'll get attacked for saying they LIKE and WILL USE the option and for THAT... I don't blame them ONE BIT!

Geeez.. I run away and get married and come back to this
well.. it's good that people are voicing their opinions, so I'll just add mine real quick..
I think that as long as everyone's needs are being met, that we shouldn't be arguing that some new feature is being implemented. As long as you have the choice NOT to utilize that/those new feature/s than I think it only serves to better the site and make more people happy...
Yes, I do believe that most of what goes on here is "fluff" ... Yes, I do wish there was more honesty sometimes just because the same ol same ol gets old sometimes and the vocal coach in me wants to be let loose to say what she feels. but i'll also admit that a lil' fluff from time to time is niceeee
BUT I know that many here are not comfortable with that kind of honesty, and so I hold back my "inner crtiquing beast" .. and just try to go with the flow so I don't tick everyone off hehe.. I do understand that some people are just naturally very nuturing and are very comfortable with the warm fuzzy comments and that will never change. I do hope we eventually get a little more of a mix of things on here to keep things interesting and balanced and at least get a little taste of what people are thinking
Mezza.. luv ya hun and I understand that you may have been having a bad morning and all but I do not believe that comment by syberchick was too harsh THO i haven't heard the song... I think she was trying to be constructive.. I think when someone crosses the line to bashing it is more MEANLY negative ... like "you suck" or "this is just so terrible" I know that some of us are more sensitive than others about constructive critisicm so I'm not trying to invalidate your feelings, but just trying to help you see that perhaps those comments were not all as bad as they made you feel... perhaps she should have added a little more positive things to say.. I would say yes to that.. but of course we have limited space right now so it's hard to fit all you may want to say
anyways, I'm sleepy and probably rambling now so I'll just reiterate that as long as these features are something we can CHOOSE to HAVE or NOT than I don't see any problem with anything

Thanks Jazzy.....the way I feel about the "no comments" option is just that it's a way for me to control my sub more. It's like if I don't want to get the same comments that are given to so many other subs, then there I can have it! And then if people really want to talk to me, they can just pm me.
And especially now that I'm in the troublemaker/complains/does nothing but complain category, I really need that no comment option. Cuz if I see how little comments I really will get now, I'd prolly cry more than I used to.

Jazzy, ma dear! you rock.
I could not have said that any better EVER! even if I'd spent 20 years trying to find the right words
GOOD ON YA!
it's nice to see SOMEONE out there "gets" us and isn't afraid to say so!
and to Tigger and Mezza.... c'mon girls.. who cares what other people think of your subs? (i also agree that the comment Mezza received sounded very professional and not negative at all) You guys like to sing, right? It gives you joy? Perhaps your escape from the world?? So #### 'em! who cares what they think! Just DO YOUR THANG GIRLS! SING IT LOUD AND PROUD!!!
In the words of Martina McBride "REAR BACK, OPEN UP, AND LET 'ER FLY!"

are u kiddin' hun?
Trust me... there've been times in my life where I've felt like nuthin more than the dirt on your shoes. My self esteem was in the hole, buried and a rock had been stuck smack-dab on top, but then things happened, and people came into my life that made me realize that I'm not so insignificant and that I DO matter.... I'm just spreadin' it around.... returnin' the favor i guess... it really doesn't matter what people think. Most of the time they're just sayin stuff to make THEMSELVES feel better cuz THEY too have low self-esteem.... just a vicious circle... Having confidence and getting to the top is NOT what life's about... In my opinion, it's about having fun and being happy... so DO IT!
there... there's ma pep-talk cheerleading speach for the day!!
