I knew that would get u here...... but I really am gonna rant
Ya know what really URKS me?
is when people all over the creation are having fundraisers for food donations and clothing and what-not around the holidays... Food Banks are being plumped and homeless people all of a sudden are being FED and cared for in December.... AND all these people are walkin' around actually being NICE to sales clerks n things.... families are having all these get-togethers and dinners.... Third world countries are getting all kinds of care-packages from us fortunate countries.....
WHY MUST WE SAVE UP ALL OUR GOOD DEEDS FOR CHRISTMAS?? DO PEOPLE REALLY THINK THAT ONE MONTH OF GOOD DEEDS IS GONNA MAKE US GOOD PEOPLE? WHY THE HECK AREN'T WE DOING THIS ALL YEAR ROUND??
this is something that's bugged me since i was a little kid.

It's a mean, mean world out there, and I am sure that each and every one out there cares, but we are way to busy with political crap, and trying to keep up with the Jones’s next door. We have our own concerns like raising children, paying debt and feeding ourselves until we burst out of our skin.
It is much nicer spending money on really big houses and Hummers, rather then spending that money on peace and harmony. It is much nicer spending money on face and boob lifts, rather then spending that money on peace and harmony. I can go on and on, but the fact is, we human beings are selfish, and do not allow the sun to shine over the person next to us. So to answer your question

It won't make us good people, but it pays for the illusion.

I know what you mean....But, at least that's a month of something good. The problem is....it does happen everyday....WE JUST DON"T HEAR ABOUT IT...why? because they would rather put out the scandalous, the shocking..and all that dribble...ain't it a shame.

Crystal. Welcome to MY world where we don't CELEBRATE xmas. We teach our daughter to be pleasant ALL year round, and she doesn't expect an over wrought credit card amount of presents stuffing out from under a dead tree.
In OUR world, We and Skylah gives presents to children and shelters in our community.... no, not at xmas time (as we don't act like it is a day any different than any OTHER day), ALL year round.
We get snubbed, for not partaking in holidays, etc... when in reality, b*tchy people, walk around singing xmas songs, and putting money in a salvatation army bucket, or drop a little more food out of their cart at the grocery store, into the little food bank box, and think they have done their part. Then they go home, to their selfish children, and cook a big plump turkey, and have all of their relatives over to celebrate. While down the street, a family just had their power cut because they didn't pay their bills, and are eating chef boyardi out of the can, while the parents explain why xmas will be.. "small" this year, and the kids get made fun of at school.
Ok, I am done MY rant now... I know you are all going to kick me, but, my gawd I had the rudest woman tell me off today, about how it was UNFAIR, that we were taking away xmas from our "poor" little girl.
GOod points Crystal. My husband says he really likes you:)
(he also adds, that he is selfish and grinch like ALL year round;)

The nice thing in the world is this.....there are still those of us who believe that you have the right to parent your child how you feel fit. Just cause my beliefs are different than yours does not mean i have to tear down yours. I believe that as long as your sweetie knows mama and daddy love her...that is important. And as for that rude lady...guess the xmas spirit.....or any spirit for that matter has not gotten to her. She had no right interfering in your life....Adios gilly.

! @ Gilly!
My hubby doesn't celebrate Christmas either..... but MY family.... hooooly smokes! They go all out! So I see both sides all the time... and I'm beginning to prefer the non-celebrating idea....
Actually this year my parents are going away and my brothers n sisters are having their own families do their thing, so I'm not doing anything for christmas this year, and do be perfectly honest?? IT'S FRICKEN AWESOME!!! I don't have to blow all kinds of money on my 2 parents, 3 grandparents, 4 brothers, 1 sister, 2 sister in-laws, 1 brother in-law, 5 neices, and 2 nephews.... not to mention the few cousins n aunts n uncles that might stop by.... I also don't have to worry about getting all stressed out about cooking supper for all those people to crowd into my little apartment.....
Before my parents go away (about a week before THE DAY) we're gonna go over there in her non-comercial lookin house... with no fake snow scattered about, and no shiney lights, and none of that crappy lookin tinsel, no pine needles to jab into ma toes..... And no pressure about how much I hope the people who's presents I bought actually LIKE them.... and not worried that what people bought me isn't more expensive than what I bought for them, not having to watch my nephews fight cuz one of them broke the other's brand new flashy toy... not having to watch one of them open a gift and say "ohhhh, but that's not what I wanted!!" and ME, MYSELF not having to open a gift that doesn't make sense giving ME in the first place (what the heck am I gonna do with a fricken rooster-shaped tea kettle anyways??)
nope! This year it's just gonna be Supper At Mom n Dad's house.... and it's gonna be the BEST christmas yet! I don't have a single thing to stress about this christmas and I'm LUVIN' it (bada ba ba ba.... I'm luvin' it....) !
I hate how commercialized christmas has become.... I wish it was the same as it was in those old movies....when all the daughters, mothers, and grandmothers would spend hours baking cookies and breads with that unmistakable aroma of cinnamon and cloves filling the air..... when a little girl was extatic to receive a simple porceline doll with a home-made dress on her .... and a little boy got a truck made out of scrap cedar from his grandpa's workshop... THAT was christmas!
none of this gotta-buy-something-for-aunt-helen-don't-know-what-she-likes-so-I'll-just-get-her-this-cookie-jar CRAP! lmao!
wow I just wrote a fricken BOOK, huh? !

For many people, Christmas has evolved from the celebration of the birth of J.C. (and some studies think his birth was in the SUMMER! !), to other things. It's mass marketed, and as people have pointed out, highly visible to otherwise just plain awful people.
I agree with the year round philosphy.
Now it doesn't mean that I don't celebrate Xmas with my family. I do, but we also try to remind ourselves WHY we're celebrating.

yeah funny ain't it? the whole JC B-Day thing...... not to get all preachy on ya, because as I said before.... my family has ALWAYS celebrated christmas..... but uh yeah JC was born in the springtime his birthday was never actually recorded... People somewhere just decided to make Dec. 25 the day we celebrate it....Makes ya wonder, huh? If he WANTED us to celebrate his birth and make a big fuss outta it, doncha think the DATE would have been recorded somewhere??
please don't turn this into a religious debate... It was just a thought!

What gets me is that here in southern calif. we have hospitals closing down all around us. Yet were building brand new ones in Iraq. The poor and indigent cant even afford health coverage and were dropping billions over in the mid east. What da friggy cuz.............

Let's see now, you go blow everything up to get rid of Saddam (a good thing) but along the way you you destroy the things the good people of Iraq (remember them the ones being tortured and killed and kept down because of Saddam) and then you begrudge the rebuilding so the good people can get on with their lives. Remember that little thing called WWII. After that was done, the allies spent a lot of money rebuilding the axis powers, who coincidently are our allies now.
Sometimes American wonder why some of the rest of the world do not like them. It's because of attitudes like yours Metalgod.

I hated to snip some of your quote 'cos it was all good, just wanted to take up less space is all.
I could not agree with you more dear. What wonderful life lessons you are teaching Sky, that's how I'm trying to raise my boys, although I didn't always do that, I'm sorry to say. We got caught up in all the commercialism and forgetting about all those who are truly in need. I'm not doing birthday or christmas gifts anymore. It galls me to spend money on someone who absolutely has no use for what you're giving them and there seriously is not a thing in the world that someone could give me. Put the money somewhere else!!
The story about the little boy you mentioned just breaks my heart, why can't people (me included) see those needs and take care of them?
Thank you Crystal for your 'rant'!! We can always count on you to stir the pot and in this case the pot was due for a good stirring!
I'm so proud of you girls...
Oh, and the stupid, rude person - she is the one who is missing out!
