There isn't anything comparable to even a basic player. Biggest lack is key changes. I have a script which uses SOX to change the key then plays the changed MP3 (caching it for later). It works for me -- I just put in a shell window: Code: k title_word artist_word and it shows the songs: Code: ubie:~% k bran look 1 - Chartbuster/CBE217/CBE217-01 - Looking Glass - Brandy.zip 2 - DK Karaoke/DK2018/DK2018-14 - Looking Glass - Brandy.zip 3 - SoundChoice/SC7513/SC7513-08 - Looking Glass - Brandy (You're A Fine Girl).zip 4 - Supercore/SPC036/SPC036-19 - Looking Glass - Brandy.zip Select: [0]
I press the number, and it plays via pykaraoke. It wouldn't be hard to make some sort of history thing. In fact, maybe I'll work on this over the holidays. I've been wanting to play around with a new Perl GUI toolkit I have seen.

Micky, Isn't that a little bit like reinventing the wheel and for what gain?

Would Karma work on Linux if you ran it through Wine?

I guess I just like the security of Linux and the fact that its a true multitasking OS unlike windows. Pykaraoke works well enough I just thought I would ask the karaoke experts

Not being defensive - I am considering formatting an older laptop and replacing windows with Linux so I'm genuinely curious (not a comp sci person).

Karma uses microsoft net framework and wine seems to choke trying to install it. I am researching other options I will post any favorable findings in case someone wants to try it as well
