Just a thought on an incentive to encouage more of us to listen to someone new. Simple concept, the more different singers you listen to each week, the higher up the scale you go. Must at least leave a smiley face to show that you have been there (the smiley idea seems to be floating around here lately.. like the idea).
What do you think?

good idea and an interesting concept... but then only those with super high speed would really benefit from this idea.
Tig's seen how my connection speed just sucks, even for dsl. I only have time to listen to a few when I'm actively on the showcase.
Now, I'm not complaining, as I don't care one bit about ranking. Not anymore. Nor do I care about a listener's comments. Honest feedback is appreciated and I can get that via PM or email. I'm merely throwing out the other side of this situation for us to see.

interesting........
not a bad idea... but what benefit with going up the scale bring me? what kind of incentive were ya thinkin.... I suppose a couple more silver thingy bobs is good enough fer me!! ! !
hey yah! we should have silver thingie bobs in the singersshowcase as well as the forum....
wait a minute......... then we'll just git people commenting without listening or just clickin' the listen button and clickin' off again to make it LOOK like they listened!! just so they git more silver thingy bobs!! !
when will it all end!? !

The point isn't about you or I, but those we are losing because they feel no one listens to them ... Will also admit the word ranking is a bit overuse...

and the point matt and crystal were making is that with the influx of subbers on SS that everyone cannot have the time to listen to everyone... people are going ot fall thru the cracks... for alot of people it isn't a matter of if they like a particular singer or music style but how much time of their life that they can devote to listening to so many singers in a day before subs are moved to second page or more... -tig

knightshow- I hear you there, I have cable, BUT, have a limit of 1 GB a month....now, I can pass that in a week, so, for the rest of the month, I get capped, and my download speeds, are around 2kb/sec. That is horrible painful, trying to download:) I love listening to new people (and used to make a point of always doing so), etc, but, sadly, I can't, when every bit of my download counts, and heck, each song takes half of my day to hear... so I tend to listen to people I already know, because I know they will be worth my time to download... (I know, that sounds bad:) I usually listen to ONE song a day. ONE. I used to listen to around 20-25, I give up:) Ok, babble. (and for anyone that HAS dialup, and listens to everyone? I don't know HOW you do it, my daughter would kill me if I spent all that time on the computer!! Even now, she has the play doh out and is waiting for me:)

The reason I started this thread was in response to BEATLES TRIBUTE'S thread that he was leaving because he felt "embarresed" about puting songs up and few people were listening.
There seemed to be a certain amount of compassion expressed for him. I hoped that we could come up with an idea not only for him but for others like him that many of you seem to appreciate.
After reading your responses I have come to these conclusions, correct me if I am wrong.
1. Slow connection speed - no time
2. Don't care about ranking
3. Don't care about listners comments
4. No benefit to me
5. People would click and not listen just to get a silver thing
6. People are going to fall thru the cracks
7. Ranking how many times one listens should be a choice.
I don't think I have missed any points or misstated anyones position, if I have then I will apologise in advance. I was hoping for some positive feedback that might encourage others of this site to give some hope to BEATLES TRIBUTE and others like him.
Thankyou for your comments,
Cort

i could be wrong, but it sounds as tho you're saying that we were being negative... If so, I don't think that was the intention....
Your idea was a good one (as are all ideas put forth) We were just stating our opinions of it.... trying to see how it would work, and IF it would work (judging by past behaviours and ideas) after all you did say "What do you think?"
If we don't think your idea will work, it doesn't mean we're trying to argue or make u feel as tho your ideas have no merit...... just humble opinions
BTW.... if that's not what u meant by the above quote, then disregard this post!

Hi Crystal.
First off it is very nice to meet you and thankyou for your opinion.
In a debate of ideas there are always pros and cons. Taking the "Devils Avocate" point of view would normaly be considered the negative aspect of a debate. I do not have a problem with that point of view and have taken it many times myself.
I didn't wish to be sidetracted about the word "ranking" ... I expressed my opinion of that subject months ago in an archived threat. Let's just say for the sake of argument that I pretty much agree with knightshow on that subject.
I will conciede though that for lack of any ideas supporting the notion of trying to encourage those who feel discouraged I will let the idea go.
You and the others are to be commended on your efforts to save BeatlesTribute...I see that he has subbed a new song.
Now I have a question.. What is next RANK after "Extreme Member"?....

after "Extreme"?? I dunno, but I'm gonna find out eventually! !
Cort, I feel your pain. Trust me, on a site as fun as this, it's never easy to see someone leave. Ever. Allstar and Wannabe have returned. I had left for a while because of the sheer frustruation that I was facing with the listing of subs as well. Now, I just don't care anymore. There does seem to be a huge amount of fan base going on, friends listening to friends... and offering support.
My biggest problem with the way it's currently being done is... people who were getting huge ranking ... well, some of them needed a reality check! ! I'm all for having fun, but when you see comments of "OMG, this is the best ever!" and you listen, it's a head scratcher to be sure.
Which is why I opt for the no comments part. I don't want to sub a song now, and have well meaning people comment on them, only to not return their comments, or shrug and take them for what they are. So when Phil impliments the no comments aspect, I'll gladly rejoin the subbers, and if you guys listen... great. if not... great.
I'm glad that you're open-minded enough to see that we weren't being NEGATIVE, as much as tossing around the idea and seeing any cons that jumped out.
Good talkin' with you!
Matt

As will I (start subbing when there's a no comments option). I stopped subbing for the same reasons as BeatlesTribute, Menephes, Matt, and Tiggr27.

Hey Matt,
I like Crystals suggestion ... Extreme ??!!!##
Can't think of anyone more deserving other than Lonman...
Glad to see Allstar and Wannabe also..
I figure that I'm probably the only friend that BHB had ... I thought that he had a lot of entertainment value ... I know that he tended to rub people wrong... just accepted him for what he is
I know Phil doesn't want to hear this but, a few months ago I suggested an alturnative to the rank system ... without going in to detail again,
1. Just for Fun ... pretty much what is going on now
2. Critique ... For those looking for an unprofessional opinion (would do it in form of a PM or Email)
3. Top Ten Songs
Phil does a great job and will never be able to please everyone...
The no comments option is probably the best alternative ... one can sub songs and not feel an obligation to respond...there is always the PM, Email, and forum option..
I also want to acknowlege that I understand the slowness of diaup ... there are more options but they come with a price that not everyone can afford..
I thank everyone for your input..
Thankyou Matt, it has been good talking to you again.
Cort

tig....gday by the way...so I take it you dont want us to comment on your songs at all...and that you are happy with that option...hmmmmm
I for one love to read people comments..and love to give comments......It give me a great sence of selfsatisfaction to make someones day by commenting.....
Sometimes after 10 or 12 takes on one song to get it right....I think maybe someone out there will at least tell my I worked that hard for a reason...and that reason is to be heard...even if its only one...thats one person you have made smile ..or frown...but at least they have left you a comment..and yes you get bad one thats life...some people are just born nasty...but I find there are many more good people to make up for them.....
If there were no comments whats the point of subbing a song...why work so hard to record one...it has the option not to be rated ...surely you can use that and let people enjoy what you have to offer...not subbing because you dont want people to comment...seem beyond me ...
But it takes all kinds to make the world go round...
Cort , gday )) I like your idea and thank you for posting this thread...I enjoyed reading your views...and helped me to get an insight on some of the other people on this site...
cheers Melodie

what worth is the comments, mezza, when they are all the same??? I see the same comments on horrible subs - awesome job! best I ever heard!!! definitely a 10!!! - that I see on really good subs... kind of takes away the sincerity when it doesn't matter what a sub sounds like if the comments are the same... the point of me subbing a song is to share with those who wish to listen... I personally don't need the affirmations of comments to enjoy subbing so, yes, the no comments works for me... if you want comments you can still have them... what is so hard to understand about that??? as matt mentioned earlier, if people listen- GREAT... if they don't - GREAT... I don't need fluff to enjoy recording or subbing... it is, of course, only my opinion- your mileage may vary...- tig

First Mezza, let's not single Tig out. Fully half of the contestants on this thread all choose to not want to read the comments (what we call fluff).
Like Cort and I've been saying, now Crystal, Tigger, and a few others have said... if you want to give me a comment, send it in PM, email, or in a thread.
I've been reading FARrrrr too much fluffeese lately, and it's only solidifying my reasoning for wanting no comments.
This is NOT dissin' the legit comments, some with good things to say ('noticed you were off key in some areas", "echo sounds like it was recorded in a toilet - what's up with that?", "Hey, good job... noticed you were able to hit the highs on this one... seeing some steady improvements on your subs!")... things like that.
I do like the "critique" angle. But I wonder how many on here could handle good, non volitle critquing... not many I suppose. Sheraoke has mentioned that she used to do this, and there were always hurt feelings... no matter HOW they tried to be nice and professional about it.
And cort, you weren't the only friend of BHB. I was too, and stood up for him on many an occassion. But I also called him on some bad things too! As I would anybody!
