It all comes down to experience. The not-so-great singers don't sing into a mic as often as the better singers. It's like when you hear your own outgoing voicemail message: "Do I really sound like that?" Yeah, you sound great in the shower or the car; everybody does.

The mic/host/sound system doesn't make you sound "bad", it just enables you to hear the "bad".

I'd agree however it's possible they are used to shows where the kj just uses a set & forget method where everyones vocals are hot all the time. And when they get to a show that actually adjusts for every singer feel they aren't very loud as they should be.

Most people the first time they hear themselves on any kind of recording, they ask "is that how I sound"? It's no different. If drunk too it's even worst.

Yeah, me too. He seems the type that ONLY perfection would do. Anything less and he may start shooting rays out of his eyes, killingnot only the KJ, but all the singers, as punishment for not going to a perfect KJ's show. I am playing, but I probably WOULD get a bit intimidated by Lonnie if he showed up at my show.

C'mon now. I'm not that bad. Yes there are shows that I absolutely abhor (most of these have to do with rotation issues and favoritism), however 9 out of 10 times I will enjoy myself wherever I go.

I would expect that Lonman would actually be an easy going, friendly and helpful type in person. Most of what I say is a bit of a joke but it generally takes people a year or two to figure that out. There are still people on that other thread who seem to think I really use Google Glass as my monitors.

I think Google Glass would be kind of cool to try out as a monitor. The only bad thing is when you trip over a table from not watching where you going. Or fall off the stage.

The Google Glass thing as a monitor would be pretty cool, but there would be issues with needing to wipe them/sterilize them after each singer. Passing a mic is a little more tolerable than putting on someones glasses with their oils and sweat around the rim.

As are just about all of the 19 KJs I have met in person from this group. I will say there was one exception, but I won't say who it was.

Even I am a lot less of a dweeb when you meet me face to face.

No, some people were following along and furthering the joke a bit but others seemed genuinely irritated that I would risk that kind of money on drunks. Then again maybe THEY were joking. Not sure what Lonman is up to......

Will the same KJ give the same great sound to Send in the Clowns as they will to Led Zep's Rock and Roll?

So if someone sings Rock and Roll, and the next person up sings Send in the Clowns, but they don't think it sounds as good as the last song and they ask for better sound, will you give it to them. Will you let Send in the Clowns blow the doors off of the establishment...or will you put a pillow in front of the mic?

Not always the best idea.Just tell them if they don't like how you run the show, feel free to start one themselves.Pretending to make adjustments will only make you look silly to anyone who knows their S&*t.(Not that I would ever presume to ask this of an engineer I was not paying)

This goes back to my pet peeve about polite customer service. I'm in agreement that a nod, smile, and then do what you know is best for your room is the wise move. The only time it's okay to tell a customer that if they don't like it they can start their own show/go somewhere else/complain to the management/leave is if they have become belligerent and a threat to the enjoyment of other customers. Telling someone to like it or lump it is an invitation to lose customers (see thread viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30547).
