speakin of racks (ones for kj'ing) were is the best place to pick one up. Right now I just have a mixer,amp,jvc303,and,crossover. I am currently building my computer to take care of the mp3's and karaoke. Also how do you guys store you equipment and how about ambient temps. I have a trailer that I keep my stuff (lights,speakers) in . I have a heater that stays about 50 degrees in winter, but I am still lugging my amp, tv, jvc303, crossover, and cdgs in and out before and after jobs. As for other "racks" Im married to a very nice set so I dont need any help there

Probably your local DJ store should have a nice selection, you can also find them online but shipping can be quite costly on a large rack (cue dirty joke).

I use Odyssey, but there are a few other leading brands out there, quality is huge when it comes to these things so don't buy a generic piece of #$@%.

I would always bring them in the house, for security as well as to moderate the temperatures.

Speakers react badly to extreme temperatures. As do electronic devices.

The biggest thing to remember if you store your equipment in cold temperatures, such as a trailer, or a garage, is that when you set up in a warm environment, make sure to let the equipment warm up before you turn it on. Otherwise the warming of the cold epuipment will cause condensation internally and possible ruin your electronic components. Other than that, storing it in cold temperatures does no harm to it. Mine has been stored in my garage for years, with no problem. And in Minnesota, the winters get awfully cold.

I gotta go with Matt on this one... I've seen equipment damaged due to cold weather, (and not that cold really) and I tend to leave a light bulb under any sensitive "stuff". (Heat still rises, eh?)

My electronic buddy even turned the heat off in his computer room and killed his hard drive.

Doubtful that the cold killed the drive unless he booted up from cold, causing condensation, which in turn probably fried his drive. Think about this..... Where do a lot of electronics get stored before going to retailers??? Warehouses, many of which are not heated.

I understand the condensation aspect of electronics and how that would mess it up but I have and electric heater in a 6'x12' enclosed trailer that I hooked up to a commercial T-stat that keeps the inside at 60 degree's. (wow nice run on sentence). I guess Im trying to convince myself this will be fine so that I dont have to lug everything in the basement after every job.

I've had electronics in -40*F/C and have never had a problem. I make sure I allow the devices to come to room temperature before I use them and check for condensation.

I'd check the manuals for the equipment. They typically list the minimum operating temperatures as well as the minimum storage temperatures. I would probably pull the speakers though. They're more susceptible to environement issues than most solid state electronic components.

BTW, I've stored stuff over an entire winter with temps as low as -60*F (and lower) with sustained periods of below -40*F without any issues. We allow them to warm to room temperature before we use them and check for condensation before using. Only problem I had was when I accidently hit a button on my stereo at -40*F and the CD changer in my car is acting strangely every since. I haven't had a chance to pull it yet, but it's likely something minor.

Guys, When we are talking about racks, just curious. are canadian racks in standard inches, or are they metric?

hopefully they aren't hex Imagine instead of a 19" rack it were 42feff
