Nope, not talking about a dip in the pool.
I'm talking about equipment. Speaker stands, monitor stands, mic stands if you use them, even racks. Any setup starts to show some wear after enough usage.
My equipment as noted above is all black. Every spring - assuming no replacement is required - I refresh it with a new coat of paint. This goes for the rack in my mini setup as well, as it is wooden. Carpeted racks get recovered every 2 years at the outside.
Do you refresh, and if so, how often? If not do you have some sort of removeable protection to keep from having to refresh? If so, care to share?

I have painted speaker stands and I keep a black Sharpie to cover dings (rare) in my speaker cabinets. Most of the other equipment stays in really good shape and I have no reason to replace or refresh. most of my equipment is less than two years old though and most of it stays on site with limited movement being performed.

I've repainted speaker poles more than once. Also, I've taken the metal grill out of some of my speakers and repainted glossy black. Doesn't take long to do either and it really brightens them up.

Thanks for your replies, but I have to ask again - how often?

nightly: a swiffer on the board and stuff in the case, a damp rag to wipe down speakers, cases, bottoms of stands quickly so it wont build up, black paint marker to touch up as needed ( i like it better than sharpie myself, looks black instead of sharpie purple), kiosk lappys wiped down and screens wiped with isopropyl alcohol.
weekly: closer inspection of everything on the rigs on the down night, repair or replace as necessary.
monthly: wipe cases, speakers, and stands, cables with Maguiar's interior detailer cleaner. works like armor-all but without the residue and oil left behind. Mic windscreens removed and washed. bags and speaker covers vacuumed, cables rewound, all repacked like brand new.
i like everything just so.....a bit overkill i know but i am particular.

Joe, I ran a Corvette restoration shop for 22 years and I would have to say I'm pretty good at refinishing/refreshing. My advise is "the less you have to do it the better". With each additional layer of paint you create a bigger problem the next time it gets scraped. The gouge gets deeper and deeper to a point that the only way to make it look good again is to remove all the paint and start over. Use a grey scotch brite to prepare the surface (degloss) and wipe down with a surface prep (alcohol will do) prior to painting. Less is better, since a spray can not have a hardener added to it. More spray can black will not make it last longer unless friction (handling) is causing you to "refresh"

Agreed, Mr. Marog. I have taken a wire wheel to my older stands on occasion and started fresb, but only those still in serviceable condition after many years use. My kudos to Audio 2000. Their stands have served me far longer than could reasonably be exoected.
