I do not like having to do it, because my time is valuable (worth at least $35 per hour)
and I will not be getting paid for it. THANK YOU PIRATES FOR THIS. Our Society was not ready
for computer based technologies and forums like this one proves it by all of the unnecessary arguments
that go on. The Devil is in the MATRIX. I will be doing the Audit as an attempt toward avoiding expending energies
in the future of which there really is no guarantee.

I ECSTATICALLY invested heavily in karaoke upon retirement from the Corporate world because I so enjoyed Karaoke as a patron. Since that time my new involvement with it has soured me with this industry as a whole. (venues, hosts, manus, legalities, BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, musicians). It is all turning into one long ugly stumbling ungraceful dance with many hiding behind masks never revealing their face and others having two faces. It seems
much is done in secret and noone trusts anyone. I am thankful for the 24 hr radio broadcast comedy station here in Denver because the music industry SUCKS. This will be my one and only RANT as a member.

I am sorry your karaoke experience has been so poor. I also left the corporate world to do this full time (though I am re-entering the corporate world today). But my experience with karaoke has been fantastic. Sure it has been stressful, and challenging, but it has been a lot more fun that more than makes up for it. I hope it gets better for you!

Never the same show twice!

It's called running a business. Did you think it would be as easy as being a singer? I'll say again, the really good DJs/KJs make it look easy and folks think they can just jump into the business and everything will be rainbows. Not so easy when you do it the right way, but it looks like it is to the customers.

Agree. I tell that to some singer at least once a week when I get the comment from them - "oh this would be such a 'fun' job, you get to sing & party all the time". Yeah, no that isn't how it works, it's actually a 'job' with LOTS of behind the scenes crap that they as a singer have no clue. The singer only sees one facet and if we are doing our job, then it will look easy to them.

Stone cold, fellas! At least a couple of times a night I have people say to me "Dude, you have the easiest job in the world! Plus you get PAID for having fun!" To which I reply: "If my job looks easy, it's because of many years experience AND by me busting my arse to make it appear so! It's more work than what you singers ever actually see."

So why aren't you charging $35 an hour for the audit? Do you normally give your product away for free- especially for someone else's benifit?
Your own fault for capitulating - more so as SC has less and less juice as they fail in court. You should have educated yourself in regard to the FULL ins and outs of the hosting business.
I have oft stated that SC should pay KJs for there time during an audit. If 1:1, then their time has been used for nothing, and the KJ should be compensated. If NOT 1:1, SC can recover costs with a suit. Fair to everyone.

I love what I do. The only part that I find boring is doing the books. I wouldn't say being a kj is easy, though. When you are juggling, (at least in my show), two computers, a CDG player, and a TV that you have to remember to change inputs on, depending on the device you are using, then dealing with drunk people and Divas, it tends to get kind of hectic. But it's still fun, and I still feel like I am part of a party. But that is me, and my personality. So, yes, when people say I have a cool job, I have to agree with them.

I've met Brian Plyler, and he is a very nice karaoke guy.

But karaoke is easy. I just take requests, push buttons and collect a bunch of money every night. Awesome!

It's for his benefit, not SC's. The only benefit to SC is that it enables us to avoid investigating and suing him for using apparently pirated materials.

SC would be perfectly happy for him to use the product he bought in the form he bought it in. No audit required, and no chance of being sued.

He wants to use it in a different format, so he has to pay (a part of) the cost of obtaining the necessary permission.

Until you understand that basic concept, your "advice" will continue to be harmful to the people who are gullible enough to take it.

All the above statements are mirrored at my show every week. This is a profession that has a very fun side. It is also a job and run as a real business should be trated that way because it is a real business. I left their corporate world to live in my corporate world and I love it.
