I have to agree with Bill in Houston.

Recently Behringer has been trying to improve their image after a longtime policy of copying other companies' designs and building them with cheap components. They've finally come out with some surprisingly good speakers. In the past year I removed my JBL Eon 15's from my show and replaced them with Behringer Eurolive B210's, mainly for the sake of saving my back; I'm not getting any younger. Their sound impressed me. I never expected to get the kind of sound I do out of 10" speakers. With the supplement of an EV SB120 sub I like the sound I get now better than I did with my JBL's.

Bose: wouldn't touch them personally. You know what they say; "no highs, no lows, must be Bose." They have also improved recently, but the latest systems I've heard are still missing warmth, IMO.

Also retired is my sixteen channel JBL Music Mix sound board and Lexicon MX200 effects processor in favor of a Soundcraft Notepad 124FX 8 channel board.

I made the mistake of starting out big and downsizing over the years. I used to have a miniature horse trailer to take my equipment out to gigs. Now I can fit it all in the cargo area and back seat of my Subaru. It may "look" dinky compared to what I used to have, but the sound is as good as, if not better than, ever.

Bose, you say? I wouldn't touch them either. Just over-priced (way over-priced) junk.

As for Behringer, they've come a long way. Personally, I've never had a problem with any product I've owned from them. Let's talk about their mixers. I have a Yamaha which is awesome but it's the Behringer XENYX X1222USB that's in my rack. It's been in use for several years, transported several times a week, used in all temperature extremes and this thing continues to operate flawlessly.

Let's talk about their amps... I recently replaced my QSC GX5 with the Behringer NU3000 iNuke and I still can't believe it. The sound is better than what i was getting with the QSC. It's powerful, putting out good bass and crystal clear highs. And best of all, it weighs next to nothing which now makes my rack a pleasure to carry.

I must be in the minority because I have never had any issues with Behringer products that I've owned. I think that they've come a long way and their quality has improved drastically in the past few years; offering great value at a reasonable price.

Really ?? Have you ever owned or used Bose Pro equipment?

Articulated arrays are used for 99.9% of all pro sound reinforcement, and that's what all the new Bose L1 systems are. Very easy to get them to produce an even spectrum at low to moderate sound pressure levels.

I have seen their arrays misused before. I've never seen them used properly in anything but professional, national acts that charge a base price of $75 a ticket for the nosebleed section. One band I saw locally had a member who ran a music store, and got his hands on a Bose array for their resort performances. Unfortunately, they set them up like you would a traditional main and subwoofer, and as a result they had all kinds of sound problems.

I put Bose arrays in the same category as Google glasses for karaoke shows: you have the money to throw away, the space for a proper setup, and know exactly what you're doing? More power to ya.

take apart any of their speaker systems and look at the garbage that's inside. Bose always uses a "magic" box to manipulate the sound because the drivers and components are such low grade and quality.

Line arrays are not a magic box and Bose does not use junk. You should take the time to understand the technology before you attempt to bash it.

In a nut shell, line arrays utilize the physics placing drivers side by side to send sound further with a lower SPL. Two drivers stacked can send mid\high frequencies further by a 1.5 multiplier than the two drivers non stacked. The distance goes up exponentially with the more drivers stacked. It isn't magic and every stadium concert utilizes these physics.

This means an L1 system can send sound wide and far with a lower amount of power. It's really that simple and it isn't a magic box.

I don't own an L1 but I have used one many times and I like what it can do. It allows the audience to hear the music and singer very well and yet not be extremely loud. I personally think it is great technology. :)

Anything Bose makes, from home audio to pro, has always been made with the shoddiest of components. Even in my new car, the Bose premium sound system was included. You would think that for a $2000 premium sound system upgrade it would sound awesome. Wrong. Garbage. I should have found a car without it and put my own system in it.

I hate Bose. Total garbage.

Talking VALUE! Talking GETTING STARTED!!!

No need to drop $3,500 for a pair of JBL 1,000 waters or a Bose system...you can spend $600 and get something that's ALMOST AS GOOD: BEHRINGER!

Then buy a $150 mixer, a $90 interface, drop $125 for cords. Buy a cheap laptop, buy two used monitors from Craigslist and you're IN!

A lot has been happening in the audio world. Cheaper components are delivering phenomenal quality. Paying 60%, 70%, 80% more to get 5%, 10%, 15% better performance (of which 98% of people, singers included, do not have the "ear" to appreciate) -- sound smart to all of you?

By the way, I have access to the Bose system where I work and I choose not to use it because the Behringers sound better!

I also have two JBL 1,000 watt speakers. Know where I use them? At HOME for fun, because again, the BEHRINGERS sound BETTER!

And all that said?

In the end, it's the individual running the show that matters most...even more so than the equipment.

(Best to have both...but you can have the best equipment in the world and still not be any good at this.)

I am using a $500 Behringer PMP 1600 mixer, ( very Mackie-like)with a pair of Behringer 215B speakers that I got for free and rebuilt with new woofers. I get NOTHING but compliments about my sound, no matter where I work. I have had sound men from bands compliment my sound. I have had no problems after two years of using this stuff. There are people here who will poo-poo Behringer, but I love my system. I run my computers through Lexicon Alphas, and they sound great!! (thanks to those who recommended them). I get that they were bad for awhile, but I believe that they are fixing their quality.

I would take Behringer over Bose any day of the week.

I use a Driverack PA+ and like it very much.

Not sure what you mean by "winging by ear". It isn't a magic genie. You still have to use it correctly.

Well then you are trying to make your system sound good, as opposed to most who have a very poor sound. There is no way to just show up, plug in, and sound great. I have yet to run across any acousticians working as KJ's! lol

8) The room you are playing in makes a big difference. Some are just harder to work with as far a getting a great sound. Believe it or not churches are a great place to have gigs since the rooms acoustically speaking are far and away some of the best. They are made that way in order that all can hear the minister.

My church would be a terrible place to do a regular gig. There is not enough room to set up equipment where it needs to be set up, and there would be wires creating a MAJOR trip hazard.

I have done it in the gymnasium there, but it isn't much better because the feedback/distortion from the natural echo/reverb of the floor makes it darn near impossible to get a really decent sound

That could make for an interesting future purchase for me. I go by ear, myself. I woldn't say that I "wing" it. I know what I like my system to sound like, and I do my best to emulate that wherever I am set up.
