Now this is for those KJ's that like to dance mix and add a bit of spice to the night. If this isn't you, disregard.

I position myself as primarily 'music entertainment', and what that means is that I'm going to try and entertain everyone at some point.. not just the singers. I will take a song request, and I try to make the filler music interesting.

Now, I like tactile control, and I have a full DJ controller that I use when I'm straight Dee Jaying, but for my karaoke nights I don't really need all of that. Access to a tactile cross fader, volume controls and the ability to pre fade listen is really all I need. For that reason I picked up the Numark DJ2go for $40 on ebay.

http://www.numark.com/product/dj2go

Retail price is $69.99 so even there, its still a great deal.

I've used it a couple of times over the last week and wow, I'm loving it. No need to take in my bulky NS6. I'm up and running much faster and take down is much easier as well.

It works instantly with Virtual DJ Pro, and I have found it very responsive. Easier than a mouse to load and cue songs, it keeps that professional touch and cue feel to your presentation while offering a lot of convenience in portability... and its fun too!

I use Virtual DJ and it seems to do everything I need to do without the controller. I have no problem using the mouse, actually I think it's pretty quick. I can select and cue songs in seconds, and I don't need another piece of equipment. As a dedicated DJ, I can see but for a karaoke host, please explain the advantage of having this.

Tactile control. You can not activate more than one thing at a time on screen with a mouse. Here you can use the cross fader, the volume control, sync a song, and basic smooth the syncing of your music tasks with real controls versus virtual ones.

Its small, light weight, easy to set up, and very inexpensive. Why wouldn't you want actual controls?

I use a very similar product for my iPod / iPad: ion iDJ2Go for $25 on ebay

http://www.ionaudio.com/products/details/idj2go

They have a DJ app for it "iDJ2Go" but I prefer Algoriddim’s djay 2 app.

Funny I know a guy who uses that DJ2GO and he loves it. There is no way to accomplish what you can with a controller with just a mouse and keyboard! The jury is not out it's a fact. And those of you who have a laptop and still use the finger mouse pad on the laptop need to try a mouse, just try it and stop being so stubborn and ancient!

The Ion version is made for iPads iPods and iPhones, only. The Numark is for Mac or PC.

Does anyone know if it works with the free version of Virtual DJ 7? I'd like to try it out before I have to buy the Pro version of the software. And I don't like the included Virtual DJ Lite that's included.

What's wrong with the dj lite? It's got to be better than the free version.

Wrong! The free version has many more features, believe it or not, than the lite version. The included "lite" version is an embarrassment by comparison. I researched this.

So, after researching this "toy", I decided that it is not worth it...

1. It's not compatible with Virtual DJ unless it's the watered down included lite version or you spring for $299 and buy the pro version.
2. There is no headphone jack. How do you do mixing and beat matching without headphones?

That's right controllers are NOT compatible with the free version of VDJ, nor are external sound cards. You need VDJ pro, which I use to make my living so the $299 for me was hardly an issue.

To use a headphone with the DJ2go you will need VDJ pro. Go to config>Sound set up> Advanced config. You will need a USB to headphone jack that you can get for like $3.99 or you can use an external sound card with a headphone jack. I'm assuming you're using a livesound board with a usb connection. Designate your livesound board as 'master' and the headphones jack as 'headphones' and then you can PFL.

Thanks for your response but it's just not worth the trouble to use this. It will cost me $300 to be able to use it. Also, you can't take any controller seriously if it doesn't include a headphone jack. I mean c'mon... that's one of the most basic features a controller should have. I think it's more of a toy to be used at home than commercially. I'll just stick to using the mouse and do what I've been doing; which has been working out pretty successfully.

**Note to Numark** Seriously??!! A controller without a headphone jack?? Now I realize that it's only an entry level controller but still, it should have one. You made this controller to only be fully compatible with Virtual DJ PRO software yet there's nothing "PRO" about this controller. By the way, where's the headphone jack??

C'mon. It's a budget device with a budget price of $59.

If you want a full-on controller with audio on-board, you get the Pioneer DDJ or the Numark Mixtrack series. But you are going to pay 4x-7x more for the privilege.

Well, I kinda figured that DeeJays getting paid to Dee Jay would already have fully licensed software, so in that case the Dee Jay has the required software already, and this is really just an alternative to a full on controller... for those times when you don't need all the bells and whistles or space is limited.

As Bazza said, its a budget device, for a full featured device that will allow you to PFL you're going to have to pay a lot more.

But, for $3.99 you can add the feature yourself.
