Here is a question I think Jim is best suited to answer...
does it take only one of the writers to make a sing not usable for karaoke,or just one writer to override that and make it ok? for example hotel California...
does it only take Glenn Frey to make it not usable even if the others were ok, or does Don Felder giving his permission make it ok even if the others say no.

Section 201 of the Copyright Act provides that the authors of a joint work are co-owners of the copyright. As co-owners, they are legally entitled to exercise all the rights of an owner (enumerated in § 106) and to license others to do the same (although it must be on a non-exclusive basis, since the other co-owner(s) can also issue licenses). There is a state-law-based obligation to account to the other co-owner(s) for the profits on a per capita basis.

However, co-authors can make side agreements that vary the standard arrangement. If Henley and Frey decided to sign a contract that said neither will license without the other's consent, that would be an enforceable contract--but it's a matter of contract law, not copyright law.

That is correct. If you Cue and I wrote and copyrighted a song and Lonnie wanted to make a karaoke version of it, then he would only need the permission of one of us.

Now I'm not sure how it would work if we had an agreement that all us us have to agree to let it be used in karaoke. I say this because if Cue (you can't trust him, he thinks Bud is something other than soda pop, lol) gave Lonnie permission to use it to make a karaoke tract and Lonnie was not aware of the side agreement between the owners, I'm not sure what could be done to Lonnie, if anything.

Someone noticed Country music? Wow. :)

Yea being in the LARGEST country state in the union I'd say I noticed Country. At least with country music I can understand the words and it's not just a bunch or yelling, screaming, rapping, ear splitting music.

Other than country give me the oldies say early 80's and before. Yep I'm showing my age

See this post..... :)

yep read it but how many douche bags do you think there are in Rap, Pop, Alternative, Rock, etc.? I'll almost bet there are a lot more than 10. How many country songs promote violence? Name a country song where the N word is used! The article was biased against Country.

I don't know but a song about wrecking your boyfriend's truck for no reason (other than you think he MAY cheat) seems rather violent. El Paso is violent. The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia is violent. Don't worry Lone, there is lots of violence in country music too.

Hate to say it but David Alan Coe has a bit of a problem with the N word in his songs. I ordered one by request and the SC version replaced it with "working like a dog" but I've had people fill in the other word, anyway.

As far as violence there have been plenty of country songs where cheating ended up in violence and Hank Jr. has made a threat or two. (Timberlea just beat me to the punch while I was typing on some other songs that came to mind.) From what I can see by living out here, country people like to shoot things.

But I thought that was a stupid article. It was just some guy griping about who he doesn't like and not very well substantiated.

8) There is a point where the host is responsible for the content of his show and how it reflects on the type of atmosphere he or she is trying to create. There is already too much violence in our society and using racially charged songs with negative content takes away from the family based show I used to try and promote. Some people think the pussycat song is offensive some don't. I had a young man sing the song once and that caused a problem at my show, the very same place later a little old couple did it and nobody said anything. Go figure, same song?
