Many years ago I visited a bar/restaurant that had NO room for karaoke near the bar. Tiny area. They had set the KJ up in another room, out of site and down a small hall. It was awful and I really felt for the guy as he was in a no-win situation. People would come sing, then promptly leave to go back to the bar.
Shoot!!! I've seen that same situation where it was a No-Win for the KJ as well. People would come for the Karaoke. They would go to that separate room for the Karaoke, and they would stay in there all night (for the show). There would be NO Waiter/Waitress service in this other room. During that time, the only times they would get out of their seats was to go to the bathroom or to sing. In other words, nobody would spend any money because they weren't by the Bar area.... "Out of Sight, Out of Mind." Then, the owner would cancel Karaoke at his place because he wasn't making any money off of it.

but I have to say my p. a. sounded like a million bucks...tyy

I didn't intend for it to sound as if you suck as a host. Lots of great hosts chase down singers. For me, my show's energy picked back up when I stopped and focused the show to those in the seats in front of me. As others have said, if this area is too small then I would certainly handle it a little differently. But if the venue has two large areas I would allow the bar to have two key areas. One with karaoke, one without. Having a display out there as Lon and a few others have suggested would be as far as I would go.

Having two areas with different things going on would be a blessing. I can't tell you how many times we had to put singers on hold while some sort of game was in progress. Having an area just for karaoke would have been a huge step toward fixing that.

I didn't take it that way...I was stating fact... I SUCK..lol..ty alot

Although I don't host karaoke anymore, my DJ Trivia and DJ Bingo shows are in most bars where there is also karaoke. When I approach an owner about bringing my services I don't want to hear that we'll be in a back bar or side room. It won't work if your entertainment is not the featured activity at the bar during the time you are there. In the majority of cases, you're committing to failure right away.

My DJ games, like karaoke, needs to be exposed to everyone to allow the host to engage the crowd and to stimulate the audience.
Out of sight is getting ready to be out the door, while they're telling you, "it just didn't work here"

We have one place here that has two DJ areas and a Karaoke area. I haven't been in there, but I believe there is a bar in each room, so it works out pretty well.
