i'll start it off

yesterday was my first karaoke (adult) backyard pool party 8)
too cool and we had a blast (it was at a nice private residence)

& at that same party was the first time in my 8 years as a KJ that i can remember anyone singing the little mermaid's "part of your world". better yet, the crowd sang it word for word too

Last night was the first time in 2.5 years I have ever had less than 10 unique singers for a night. Was one of the slowest nights the bar has ever had as well.

We chalked it up to Solstice, World Cup, the Freemont Fair (local annual solstice party), nice weather and camping.

Last night was also the first time I have performed Soundgarden - "Fell On Black Days".

Over the last three weeks I have also started testing out all of the Radiohead tracks. I have done "Optimistic", "Fake Plastic Trees", "High and Dry", "No Surprises".

"House Of Cards" and "There There" are next week.

Friday night was the first time ever having 4 bachelorette parties and 2 birthdays at one show. Also a record night for sales on any night in June and I've been at this venue for about 9 years now.

Really? Queensryche gets done quite a bit, and not just Silent Lucidity. Eyes Of A Stranger, Take Hold Of The Flame & Queen Of The Reich are done fairly regular by people that sound pretty good as well.

1st for us was every Disney song I have in the book was sung in one show by a birthday group - yes it was a bar - NOT a kids show. Off thing about it was, this is the same group that normally sings all the hard core metal/rock.

Last week was the first week in five years where I did not go to karaoke at all.

Note: just because a little stray kitten is adorable, don't try to rescue it. It will probably bite you. You will probably need a lot of rabies shots and antibiotics.

Last week was also the first week I started singing in the shower regularly to make up for the lack of karaoke.

This weekend was the first time I have seen the mug shot of one of my singers in the news. It appears this lady is a serial arsonist and has confessed to setting 45 (and counting) fires. About half were random and and half were against people she had a beef with. She would leave bars (and she was one of my regulars) cruise around at night and set fires to homes, dumpsters cars and motorcycles.

Some may remember the story of having a fire in the apartment complex across from the bar several years ago and my show turned into a triage unit and one person died. We are waiting to see if she was responsible for that one.

I haven't been going out to Karaoke in a little over a year now. I've been feeling very run down with all the travel I keep doing every week between NY and PA (for my regular full time job). The last time I went out for Karaoke was about 6 months ago. Well, this week, I decided to take a road trip and visit some friends in another State. They, in turn, took me over the Border to Canada, and I participated in Karaoke there. I've now gone International.

Where did you go in Canada?

Several of my friends and I would travel to Port Huron, Michigan from time to time, but the pub we frequented closed recently, so we're on the lookout for another in the same area.

Last month was the first month that I had a real day job in almost 4 years. I'm not sure that I'm happy with my decision to go back to a 40 hour work week..... plus the karaoke :?

it was about 6 months ago but it was the first time anyone ever offered/asked me if i'd let them do a 5-minute stand up routine in-between karaoke

c'mon, like that's ever gonna work. especially if you're a nobody.
but i gave him a shot because i was curious

oh boy did he bomb horribly :D
it was so awkward

he should've done his 5-minute routine on why something like that doesn't work

another first....

a total of 3 different young strippers who all work at the same club in a different county stopped by and checked out my show without knowing that i worked there. and i knew all 3 and they know me (by face only, ha)

one night 2 of the young dancers were together hanging out together and came by to get something to eat. they had no idea i worked there. they were in their street clothes and only i knew they were strippers. one of 'em shot me a look like "please don't announce anything". (i wouldn't). i have some filler songs that mention the word "strippers" in the title or are about strippers and i thought HARD about playing those songs while they were there, but i didn't. still they were visibly dancing in their seats to what music i played.

they eventually sang...multiple songs believe it or not! that really surprised me and i can now scratch that off my bucket list. i couldn't get over how different they were outside the strip club. their personalities were 180 degrees different than what it is while in the club. and i know, to you that's probably obvious or expected. for example: 1 of the 2 girls comes off as really smart in the club. but outside the club in person, she was really dizzy. i was surprised i misjudged her. the other girl was the opposite. acts really dizzy in the club but outside the club she was smart as a tack. just wasn't expecting that. what do i mean by smart and dizzy: they play the same beyonce song in the strip club that the girls dance to. so one of the dancers decides to sing it. she didn't know the title. once it came up on the screen, she didn't know the words, couldn't catch on to the beat. kept giggling throughout the song. made me wonder if she could read. and lost her dancing ability she moved like a robot. i was shocked. she comes off so smart while in the club. outside the club she was so dizzy she said to me "the other girl says we know you but i don't recognize you." the other chick who seems so dizzy in the club but was sharp as a tack outside the club was the one who recognized me immediately and came up to hug me as soon as she noticed me. in the club she uses slang or laughs a lot. but in person, it was like talking to a 60 year old congresswoman because her vocab was so SAT. she was all knowledgeable and factual. complete 180 degrees. not a putdown on either woman. i've heard folks say that to me i seem a different person as a KJ than in public. in public i'm more boring. as a KJ i'm more extraverted.

then a few weeks later, another dancer from the same club who also knows me by face dropped by. she didn't sing. again, that club is in a different county. and she had no idea i worked here. she hung out in a ridiculously sheer attire and personally, i kept waiting for security or someone to usher her out but they didn't. probably because it was after midnight (karaoke goes until 1). again, her personality changed. in the club, she's low key, dresses conservatively, is very shy, acts very normal, is very polite. very level. but outside the club, in her street clothes in public she was practically naked, flaunting herself, a little loud. man, all the dudes in the spot were tripping over themselves to get to her. nobody knew she was a dancer. she collected a lot of phone numbers. ha.

I guarantee you that you have had more strippers there than you know. As well as drug dealers, BMX moto-cross racers, policemen, firefighters, other bar tenders, other KJ's, electrical engineers, politicians, garbage men, pilots, and a whole lot more.

What they do for a living isn't important. Them having a good time and being able to escape from the real world 4 minutes at a time is.
