If the singers want to see what the crowd sees they can look at the audience screen. If the graphics behind the words are distracting, they can look at the singer screen. This way I can also run scrolls and announcements on the audience screen without distracting the singer.

I hated the video behind the words. Too distracting for someone who might have ADD.

I 'll add singers with astigmatism (sp?) to that. They can't see 3D either by the way. Yup, he's serious, and correct. Anyway, I've had enough complaints about background graphics / video to have learned my lesson. Pass.

I may contact the engine developer and see what he thinks.

I use Pioneer LD videos every chance I have. But I always warn the singer and give them the option. Most of the younger crowd runs with it and seem to get a kick out of the vids. The older crowd has either seen them enough or have problems with separating video from lyrics and typically opt out.
Otherwise, I steer clear of other formats with fancy backgrounds because they do seem to take away from the tracks.

I still think of the time I did "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" on laser disc -- I think it was even at your show. I had never seen it before, and in the last verse where the wimpy Leroy gets pummeled by the even wimpier husband I cracked up and couldn't finish the song.

There has yet to be a male who can finish my laser version of "My Baby Is American Made." The video is a bunch of ladies in bikinis cavorting in the surf and the singer just sort of fades and stands there staring. They don't even seem aware that they have stopped singing.

Must have been a Nu-Tech disc, they seemed to use a lot of bikini clad videos.

I think it is Nikkodo. We "inherited" a bunch that came with a Pioneer player we bought.

The developer however, seems to have lost interest in karaoke and moved on to other projects. Now it's no longer available for purchase. I believe the graphics are added behind the lyrics by overlapping the cdg and assigning the blacks in the cdg a transparency value that can be turned up or down which allows for control of the intensity of the background graphics. It's very cool.

I would dig this. I miss the cheesy pioneer videos. As it was said above, there's not much visually appealing to watching a person--no matter how well they sing--just standing still and singing.

I have astigmatisms in both my eyes (for over 30 years), but that has never affected my depth perception (seeing in 3D) or peripheral vision. In fact, when I started wearing contact lenses over 20 years ago (I no longer wear them now). I needed to get Toric Lenses (so that they would always fall into place in a specific position for optimal vision.

By not seeing 3D, I wasn't referring to real sight, though depth perception IS affected. What I was referring to were 3D effects on a flat screen, like 3D movies. They can wear the glasses or whatever, but the 3D effect on a 2D screen seems lost to them.
This being the case, lyric swipes over graphics can be visually confusing to them.

It may be some other condition. Before I had my PRK surgery (same as LASIK, but a little safer), my astigmatisms were so bad, I couldn't even see the BIG E clearly on the charts. With glasses/corrective lenses, I could see 20/20 or at least 20/40. As far as wearing 3D glasses (those chintzy cardboard frames with one lens Red and one lens BLUE) over my glasses, I could see the 3D affects just fine.

I have an astigmatism. I have a 3D Plasma TV. I can assure you that I see 3D just fine whether I am wearing the 3D glasses over my eyeglasses or with contacts.

Then it may well be another condition. My ex said hers was astigmatism, and 3D movies were lost on her, as well as my cousin. I DO know that it does affect depth perception, but I guess they had another condition as well. So... people with that other condition could have trouble with graphics and lyric swipes? Dam! Now I have to find out what the other condition is or my curiousity will kill me. Thanks guys......
