As long as they are decent to good singers I think it makes the customers feel like the employees really enjoy their jobs. You wouldn't want to encourage an employee that sings poorly however..... I don't think..
I don't know.... sometimes the staff's lousy singing" can be the encouragement others need in order to get up and sing (those that were feeling shy or scared or intimidated because of the better singers)... I know that's what broke me and got me up for the very first time (hearing one of the bartenders singing something that sounded so horrible, I knew I had to be better than that).

i agree Cue, i know i have thought "i'm not THAT bad" on more than one occasion to tackle a song.

"I'm not that bad" was definitely responsible for me starting with karaoke. Eventually, it evolved to "oh, wait, no, I am that bad, and I don't care." Hence the t-shirt.

They're supposed to be working. What if your bus driver pulled over and ran into a karaoke bar just to belt one out, and everyone on the bus had to wait? What if your cab driver pulled over to make a personal call when you were in a hurry to get somewhere?

in blue is the key point that i see.
my bartenders sing, but they also take orders and mix drinks at the same time. if they have to stop working to sing, then i can see a problem, but there is no reason they should ever have to stop working.

Most of the places I work at have more than one bartender. So there is someone to manage orders while the other sings.

I don't have any problem with employees singing, but like others have mentioned, they follow the same rotation rules as everyone else.

absolutely, even my sister has to wait her turn like everyone else.
as long as they can make a drink while singing so no patrons get ignored seems like fair game to me.

One venue I have has a particularly talented bartender. She can sing, dance, pour a drink, and then jump up on the bar and dance. Think Coyote Ugly only not ugly..... :)
