I went to my usual Friday karaoke spot last night and it was really slow...I sang at least eight songs in the three hours I was there, a new record for me. We started the night with five singers, and by the end of the night, we were down to two. Needless to say, my voice was shot by the end, but it was still a blast!
What's your record?

That can happen to me in Nov. & Dec., but I may have to sing 10 or more to help fill up a night. The next day I can't even talk. It's that the snowbirds aren't coming down as early as in past years. :( My season is getting too short. If I did a show now I'd be the only one there.

On a dead-as-a-doornail night, I recall singing about 12 songs. My voice is really not built for stamina, so after about 10, my talking voice was totally shot.

A night like that can really make on realize what a rock star goes through when they have to sing a whole concert. Can you imagine singing a whole concert of Bob Seger songs, not to mention Journey?

Well i think my record for one of my own shows was 15. It was so dead it was depressing, i finally just gave up and played music the rest of the night.

For a show that I have just been a singer.. 12

As a host when I started out, there was no such thing as filler music and the host sang if they had no singers. So I lost track after the first twenty.

Everyone that posted an answer to this went higher in number than the one before...coincidence?!?!?!?!?!

That being said, I did 1.21 gigawatts worth of songs, after doing 88 miles an hour to get there..."Biff, get your damn hands off her (aka my microphone)"... lol

On a slow night (which is when such an opportunity presents itself), I tend to start losing track after I've sung 5 songs. Back in '97, I was out a a place on New Year's Eve. The place was surprisingly devoid of a crowd... there were about 12 people in the place that night, of which there were only 4 of us singing. As it got closer to midnight, a large group of Brazilian tourists (mostly teens) showed up, but were not singing. They just wanted to hear us (the Regulars) sing. I sang so much that night, that I lost my voice before the night ended. I definitely sang more than 10 songs that night.

Are you sure it wasn't more than "1.21 gigawatts worth of songs"? I think if you think real hard it might have been. :beermates:

I want to say the most I've sang on a slow night is seven or eight songs which, for me, is too many. After three or four, I've typically ran out of things I want to sing on that night.

The thing I do like about those slow nights are the off-the-wall choices that we come up with, figuring if we're going to totally crash and burn, at least there are fewer people there to witness it.

A friend got booked to do a show at an Elk's Club that had mainly older people in the audience. He sang a Sinatra song to start the show and after that no one would put up a song except for requests for him to sing. He ended up doing a one man show for the entire night. He was begging people to sing as his voice was getting tired but they were happy to sit back and enjoy a concert of the Classics. He is an older gentleman to begin with and could barely talk the next day.

I don't have problems with my weekend shows but I have a week night show that can be sparse. Rather than have the same people have to sing over and over again I am going to try a Duets Challenge. I printed up my Duets list and when it is a singer's turn they can pick a duet and challenge any of the other singers to do it with them. We shall see. I've also done Kamikazi or pick a song you have been afraid to do nights--Practise Sessions so to speak.

Usually when I threaten to sing until people put up slips they put up slips really quickly. It is a bit of an ego blow but for the good of the show it does work.

yeah singing 4,5 or 6 time an hour tends to tear anyone up and then doing for 3 or 4. I too have suffered from to many songs in one night and loosing my voice.

but I honestly can say that I've never kept count, and have sung till my voice was gone.

In my case, it is a lot easier to sing a high volume of songs on a slow night because the average length of most of my repetoire is under 3 minutes.

I found a lot of old chamber of commerce films for Palm Spring ( 50's and 60's ) I play now. If no one what's to sing we play nostalgia.

Ten songs in one night is my personal best. Place wasn't dead, either. It's a college bar and was pretty well packed, but the kids were more interested in drinking and listening to the singers rather than singing themselves :D

I'm not sure, but 7 maybe 8 sounds right. I need to learn more easy songs I like for the occasional night like that. Just shows how great some of the pros really are doing it night after night.

I like to sing 3 or 4 songs, the more I sing the more I smoke and drink!
