I think there should be a sub-group here at Karaoke Scene... and I hereby nominate the following to be charter members... Brian A would be my choice for President, while Cueball is a very close second, and would therefore become the Vice President... I, of course, would covet the Sergeant At Arms job... After all, we need someone to keep out the self-professed, holier-than-thou, know-it-all "professionals". No Shame and Lizard would be Secretary or Treasurer or any other position they might choose. And Lon could be our "whip".
I know Cue would like the Sergeant At Arms position, but I thought of it... so I get it. Na, na, na, na, na, na.....
We would proudly call ourselves the "P.O.S. Club", and wear the honour (or honor for my American friends) proudly.
Memberships would only be open to us un-professional, probably-pirate, bottom-feeding, diva-singing, pieces of sh-t.
And, like any super-secret society, we would need a set of rituals... not involving spitting in each-other's eyes, but certainly bowing down to the twin altars of the exalted Alan & Bruce...
Time to change my tag line... "P.O.S. and Proud Of It"

And your theme song can be "Piece of $hit Car" by Adam Sandler. I might have to work on a song parody for you guys. FIRST DRAFT: Piece of $hit host I'm a piece of $hit host of all the KJ's in my town the singers hate me the most My rigs a big piece of $hit Cause the mics always cut out I think my woofers broken but it's the only speaker I got I can't sing to save my life but I sing more than anyone else The singers can kiss my (@$%!)cause I paid for it all myself Piece of $hit host I'm a piece of $hit host of all the KJ's in my town the singers hate me the most. How's that for a start?

everything I say is useful....for people who would like to improve their customer's entertainment experience. The piece of $hit hosts don't want to improve. That would cut into their showcase time. I especially like the ones that keep the volume down to protect their speakers until it is their turn to sing. Classic stuff!

So now the message has no merit because someone said they were finished when, in fact, they were not finished? People are no longer allowed to change their mind because Ego maniacal KJs refuse to change theirs? If someone says that they are done with a particular topic, does that give others freedom to attack them because that person somehow has given up the right to defend himself? Classic bullying if you ask me. Just a bunch of Bully KJs on their bully pulpits deciding that the masses will have to accept their way of doing things no matter how unfair it may be because they have all of the power and none of the common sense to do what the people prefer......but it's the singers who are the Divas to them. It's laughable. alright.

I only know 3 songs". Maybe someone might feel that way if the place was dead and there were only 3 or 4 singers? Who knows? And, similar to NoShameKaraoke's experience, I have also been to shows where the Rotation was ONLY 6-7 people (roughly a 30 minute Rotation). I have felt that getting up to sing twice in 1 hour was too quick, and have wished for more people to participate. Ultimately, I feel that 12-15 people is a good Rotation, but even when the Rotations are running 20+, I still don't have any issues with the KJ remaining in the Rotation (as long as he/she is not hogging the Rotation). I absolutely HATE it when I'm at a karaoke show where there are maybe 3 singers in the rotation and I have to spend the entire evening looking through the songbook to find my next song before my next turn comes up. Most singers are happy singing, like, 4 songs in a night. It's nice to be able to relax, have a drink, and socialize at a karaoke bar. When the rotation is very small a KJ ABSOLUTELY should be in the rotation to help add to the rotation length. Personally, I don't have this big problem with the KJ singing ONCE a rotation even when it gets quite large. If the KJ remains in a 30 singer rotation that means that the KJ will be singing one song every two hours - like everyone else. In practice, MOST KJs will usually remove themselves from the rotation when it gets to a certain point. MOST KJs will be out of a 30 singer rotation. While there may be some disagreement as to whether or not a KJ should ever sing at his own show, we can certainly all agree that the KJs who sing 5 times per rotation are STAR KJs and not really HOSTS. I was once at a show where, I'm not kidding, a KJ sang a FIVE SONG SET when he probably had 20+ singers in rotation. THAT is ridiculous!!! Sorry, but I am not convinced that a KJ should NEVER, EVER, EVER sing at his own show. There are certainly times that a KJ NEEDS to sing to properly fulfill the role of a HOST.

BFFL and Alan have a problem with any host being in the rotation at all and make it sound that if they ARE in the rotation, they also sing every other songs and bump singers out of 20 minute blocks of time each round. if anything, the busier the night the less problem i would have with a host singing. 8 minutes over five hours for the host to sing twice like the rest of us is no big deal. the "Star KJ's" you have described is what all hosts who sing once per round like anybody else are being called by those two.

I really don't have an issue if they sing if there are less than 10 people in the rotation. I just point out that some KJs take themselves out of the rotation after only 5 singers have shown up.
