While I call myself DJ Bill for the sake of joining this forum I am far from a DJ and new to karaoke.
What started out as family entertainment for a five year old little girl has now branched out into a new world.
After purchasing a few items from EBay I have learned the terms CD+G, MP3+G, SCD+G, etc.
Who knew there were so many different file formats for karaoke.
I have since learned I need software to convert,rip and burn these files to make them compatable with my CD+G player.
So I'm conflicted as to what software will work best for my needs at a minimal cost
Power CD+G burner2 vs Rox Box converter,Power SCDG ripper or all three.
I do not want to do this at a professional level however I would like to eventually operate everything from my laptop instead of manually loading disc.
Below is a list of items I have purchased so far but need advice as to where to go from here. Any suggestions would be helpful!

Welcome Bill, just keep checking in, this is the most comprehensive bunch of folks I've ever seen or found on the net for Karaoke. I get lot's of help here just by lurking. I am using outdated old buggy mixer, not the best speaker system, from the dinosaur age but like you I put all my disc's in a laptop and downloaded them and then downloaded karaoke tracks from the net. Better than spending $15-$45 for a disc for one or two songs that I wanted off it. I also have had custom disc's made a few years ago from Chartbuster who went out of business. But I pay anywhere from .50 to $3.00 per track on a whole bunch of internet karaoke software venue's. Lately from England, Zoom, but Sound Choice is the most popular software developer on the site. I have no Sound Choice on my computer, nor do I own any of their disc's, my reasons, well keep reading.

Most of these folks are professional, and know their stuff and you just got to find a couple of KJ's on here that speak in a language you and I can understand. As an example I finally purchased my wireless microphone system but never thought I would ever spend more for my mic's than my system, but then I paid more along the way for the tracks and sofware, buying a little at a time. I always figured a $100 mic was good enough and wired Shures again from the dinosaur age-588 SD's, 40-50 years old, but work a lot better than the cheap mics you get with a system. I finally bought the Shure BLX288/PG58 Dual-Channel Wireless System with 2 PG58's for a little over $500 but believe it well worth the cost even compared to my old reliable Shure's. Yea I'll probably upgrade more as I go. But a microphone is the "singers best friend", so I started there after messing around after 4 years of Karaoke.

Most of my ripping, burning and play and record system for my computer I bought from Power Karaoke http://www.powerkaraoke.com/ and that's what I use under the name Siglo's. The have a troubleshooting forum on the site and too are a big help getting started. I also use a recording editing software system called Roxio to edit and burn my recordings to disc's. I know it's not the best system out there, but it all works fine for me. I'm not what you would consider professional, just your garden variety Karaoke nut. I have played in bands and sing live music my whole life through so I am no stranger to music or a beginner by no means at 70 years old, but we have a lot of fun, still.

By the way welcome, you won't find a better bunch than what's here.

Bill by the way, stay away from any free music even free Karaoke tracks from the internet, you will be sorry later on and could face severe penalty's from downloading copyrighted any kind of free stuff, better paying .99 for a track than $300 or hundreds per song or thousands for the free stuff, confused, stick around and do some searching on this site.

One more important thing if you are using a wireless computer router just make sure you use a secure password, I think I got in a bit of trouble not doing so!

Lesson #1 - Never buy any piece of equipment that says "Karaoke" on it. It will be drastically overpriced, underpowered junk. 99% of us use actual PA gear, like a live band would use. It certainly costs more than the karaoke toys, but it sounds like real people singing real songs.

You are correct if I were going to do this as a profession. For now it is just a little hobby I want to try and if I like it I will upgrade as I go.

Thanks! good advice looks like I have a lot to learn. I was looking on EBay today and saw a china company that had pre-loaded songs on a hard disc player with like 27,000 songs of which 9,000 were in English. While the systems were priced fairly I don't think you would get the technical support needed. I'll pass on that!
