Just this past Thursday, I received my 2nd set of Gems. Now my business can provide more of our singers with the a brand of karaoke tracks they frequently request by name. Customer service is a big part of my business structure. As my business expands so do my profits. Wow what a concept!

Bazza wrote: I'd love to answer you Joe, but your post is a quoting mess. Please, for the love of god, read this. faq.php?mode=bbcode#f2r0Joe, you really do need to learn how to use the quotes properly. You really shouldn't put your added comments to a quote (regardless of the fact that you are using a different color to have your comment stick out) within that quote, ESPECIALLY when you are quoting a very long text, and inserting comments in between every few lines. Break things up point by point if you need to. Close out the quote you are addressing (so that the quote is within it's own box), and then put your comment after it ( OUTSIDE of the box). Then just use the QUOTE feature/HTML code for the next statement you wish to comment to/about. Example: He Said wrote: She Said wrote: Blahh Blahhh Blahhhh Neener Neener Neener! You're both a bunch of babies. looks a lot easier to read than this one below (which is your style of quoting): He Said wrote: She Said wrote: Blahh Blahhh Blahhhh Neener Neener Neener! You're both a bunch of babies.

I agree with the above completely- though I also think Bazza got stuck and brought it up as a distraction.
I was always taught that answers within quotes were kind of a forum/bulletin board no-no. However, since Bazza did it, I had to answer in kind, as any point would have been lost in a breakdown. It's not something that I normally do, but rather separate the points, number them, and anwer below.
However, since our newest forum editor and writing critic chose to give Bazza a hand, I'm sure the point was lost to distraction anyway. So be it.
I would also add that while I will sometimes use underlines, emboldens, and italics- or various combinations thereof- to make a point, I find font, size, and color changes- other than to separate to statements- to be a bit overboard. Sort of like using all caps for a written scream effect.
It's easier to read one font, size, and color, and leaves a calmer and more thoughtful impression. Just MHO....

JoeChartreuse wrote: I was always taught that answers within quotes were kind of a forum/bulletin board no-no. YES. And that is exactly what YOU are doing! Cue is showing you the CORRECT way to do it. HE didn't "quote within a quote". His reply ("You are both a bunch of babies") is OUTSIDE the quotes. JoeChartreuse wrote: However, since Bazza did it, I had to answer in kind Huh? Maybe in Joe's World™, but this post itself is proof that I use the forum quoting mechanism correctly, just like every other forum on the planet. This reply is not a "quote within a quote". It is a reply to a quote. Notice my replies are NOT INSIDE your quote box (as were yours). They are answers. This is the way it is done Joe. Every person or quote has it's own box, otherwise you don't know WHO is saying WHAT. JoeChartreuse wrote: It's easier to read one font, size, and color, and leaves a calmer and more thoughtful impression. Just MHO.... The easiest way to be understood is to use the forum like every else on the forum. Correctly. This includes proper quoting. The first step is to admit you have a problem. We are here to help...if you are willing to learn.

While on the subject, I have to ask, since there were several examples in this quote: Is there any particular reason why- when you use a hyphen- there is a not a space before it, but there IS one AFTER IT? It has been a while since I have studied the English language and grammar, but that does not adhere to any known form of which I have ever been made aware. I would understand trying to differentiate between the hyphen's use in a compound word or phrase and it's use as a thought separator, but I have mainly experienced in part-time situations like the proceeding example, or--if necessary--in THIS proceeding example...

Wow. Seriously? We have people here who write run-on sentences, do not separate paragraphs, apparently can't spell, use words that have never been entered in the English dictionary, post in multiple font sizes and colors, and on, and on, and on....
I look for the information within a post, and am not worried about providing a critique. Shall we really do this with each and every post, or shall we attempt to gain information.
Do I make some mistakes while posting? You bet. Mispellings ( not through lack of literacy, but because I am the world's worst 2 finger typist), grammatical errors, and others pop up <space> - especially after a long night <space>- and will continue to do so on occasion. It happens.
The problem, 3 posts later, is that the point of the post itself has been obscured and distracted from through self-appointed editing. Kind of a hijack and certainly a waste of time, because mistakes happen.
In the last few months I have learned to expect it from Cue, for reasons known only to himself, but the rest of us have pretty much adopted a live and let live approach in the interest of expediancy.
In other words, the priority is the information rather than the presentation.
All that being said: Great distraction from an erroneous post, Bazza! Not a bad thread killer either...

JoeChartreuse wrote: In the last few months I have learned to expect it from Cue, for reasons known only to himself, but the rest of us have pretty much adopted a live and let live approach in the interest of expediancy. I'm sorry if you feel offended by my (as you put it) being a self-appointed editor here. I may have had some confrontations with others on this Forum, but it wasn't about spelling or grammar. I do take offense at your little subtle attempts to single me out. I am NOT the only one here who has attempted to correct someone else's spelling, and it's NOT something I've done with any regular habit (let alone in the last few months) as you seem to have implied. But when certain people make the SAME mistake with the use of a word ( Their, They're, There comes to mind), it's rather difficult NOT to say something about it...just like YOU and the way you use the QUOTE feature. As for your comment about me and the last few months, I don't know where you are getting that from. I am NOT some self-proclaimed Spelling Nazi on this forum, and I have not made any regular habit of correcting others for their grammar or punctuation either (as you seem to make it sound). And, regarding my pet peeve about how the use of certain quotes (too lengthy ones or repeating the same quote over and over from 1 post to the next), well, I haven't spoken of that in quite some time. My joining Bazza in getting on your case with how you have been using quotes has NOTHING to do with what I've mentioned in the past regarding my pet peeve. You continue to do the same thing, and for some unknown reason, you refuse to comprehend or stand being corrected. JoeChartreuse wrote: mistakes happen. It's only a mistake when it happens once or twice. In your case, it continues to happen even after others have commented about it. I didn't start this about your blatant misuse of the quote feature. YES! I said blatant, because it's not the first time this was mentioned (and not just by me), and yet you continue to insist that you are in the Right, and everyone else is doing it incorrectly. Bazza brought it up first, and I just backed him up on it with an example of what the proper use looks like. This has nothing to do with whether you can type or not (2 fingers or all 10). Using the excuse that you are a Luddite doesn't cut it every time either. At some point, you may have to break down and LEARN something new (in this case, how to use the quote feature properly). There comes a time when, if enough people say something, one would think that MAYBE he or she was doing something wrong. I don't know, maybe you just feel that you are superior to the rest. You (Joe) CAN'T EVEN ACCEPT the fact that Bazza refuses to answer your one simple question. You're like a dog with a bone, and can't just let it go. Instead, you'd rather create an argument about it, and turn it around to reflect against someone else.

Yeah simple mispellings are pretty annoying (to me anyways) , but not surprising that MOST deejays or kjs i've met in 25 years never went to college and seemingly barely made it out of high school. i usually just stop reading if it doesn't flow or has simple grammatical errors. As for quotes within quotes, yeah i know i suck....where's the tutorial?

I thought we were on this thread discussing The Gems. Now this has become a continued lesson (unsolicited) in English. I too, like others might misspell a word or even create a run on sentence but for god's sake the most of us here can understand what each other is trying to get across in our discussions. I guess that some when they run out of arguments will resort to nitpicking the actual layout of others post.
I say dismiss class, fire the teacher(s) and get back to the relevent discussion.

I say dismiss class, fire the teacher(s) and get back to the relevent discussion. One could spend an entire day going throughout any given forum and make a statement discouraging conversation drift, and still may not hit all of the individual occurrences. It is the natural course of virtually any conversation of any length. Discouragement from anyone that does not come from a gross violation of standard forum rules for negativity might be best ignored...

...get back to the relevent discussion. Funny... you didn't seem to complain when we went off topic on the very 1st page of this thread, and started to discuss how many "Beatles" tracks we had in our library.

It all comes down to learning how to properly use internet forums (they are 99% the same). Whether it be proper quoting, posting pics (which some still claim to be unable to do, even after numerous detailed explanations), USING ALL CAPS, Giant Fonts or pointless colors.. Once someone reaches 100 posts, you really have no excuse. Learn proper etiquette. johnreynolds wrote: As for quotes within quotes, yeah i know i suck....where's the tutorial? I posted it. One would think, that when you're trying to make a point about GRAMMAR or SPELLING, you would be EXCEPTIONALLY careful of your (mis)spelling!!!... ESPECIALLY when you are pointing out SPELLING as a problem with 2 finger typing (BS Excuse!!!). Not for nothing Joe, but the Forum has an auto Spell-Check before you post, so mispelling would get flagged with the word being UNDERLINED in RED, for you to CORRECT IT before you POST IT! Sorry Joe... but YOU decided to take a HOLIER THAN THOU approach rather than accept a few corrections... DEAL WITH IT!!!! And isn't it ironic how I am the one who you chose to accuse of jumping on you for SPELLING ERRORS!!!
