I can understand the 'no rank' option-its not really done the same by all, but I don't see why people wouldnt want comments? that is where you get suggestions of what you can do to improve, what others hear that you may not have , encouragement and some comradarie ect.
I understand that we have those that can use this area for bashing or revenge but they do that in the forum and we dont take that away.

People do have the option to not comment, just rank and leave comment area blank....not sure why someone would, unless they really just don't have anything to say.

But can someone explain to me why they think the 'no comment' option is good and what would be their reason of using it?

I just don't get it.

Why would it matter what individuals choose? You answered your own question... "it's not handled the same by all".

What Tig and I proposed (and a few others) is the option to not have to deal with comments that may not be as honest as you are, neverheard.

I honestly WISH the comments section was as you described, but instead, it's really turned into a huge fluff machine. When I see the same comments I've received given to people I know tanked a song, I have no use for them anymore. Makes me put myself into their category...

SO I just want a place to sub my songs... without the b.s. Is that SO wrong?

I'll tell you one thing, if I wanted to ignore the comments of those that I didn't consider "honest", and I didn't reply, people would get upset over that as well.

If people want to give Legitimate comments, they can do that via PM. I'm tired of reading comments from people that are just trying to be kind, gentle or whatever... but they're painting the sub out to tbe FANTASTIC, THE BEST THEY'VE EVER HEARD, etc.

Most people know when they've subbed a song that's less then perfect. The trouble is, I'm seeing singers that truly believe what the fluffers are saying... I hear their subs and wonder if my speakers are working correctly.

Anyway, as I initially pointed out, what would it matter?

I don't think that it matters, I just wanted people to tell me what their reasoning was on using it....

knightshow, I don't usually comment on a sub that I think is bad as well as give a rating. I'm not sure why there is a 10 score, because there is no such thing as a perfect performance without any missed notes or pitch perfect. I do give a 10 based on relative perfection, that is the best that can be achieved without having the performance proffesionally mastered.
I allow for a missed note or two as well as key, if in my veiw over 95% to 98% of the performance is near perfect it deserves a 10, otherwise what's the use in having a 10 there in the first place. If you listen to anyones performance you can pick out flaws, timing, notes, key and so on.
On the other hand I have seen scores handed out that were 10's that were just awfull and that is not right. So I can see the point in having a no rating choice, as it is very discouraging to some to be compared to those that in plain English can't carry a tune in a basket.

I wouldn't have brought this up but seeings how someone else did I'll add my two cents.

the main thing I was driving at is the relative inconsistancies with the ranking system over all. I'd be perfectly happy losing it AND then dealing with the fluff! !

THere are very few honest raters here... it's one reason I left before. I got so frustrated putting out my best effort, only to have someone with tons of friends giving them the highest rankings and comments, and I listened to it and went "what????"

I think people here can have a TERRIFIC time once the threat of "listen to me or I won't listen to you" is eliminated. Then you can listen, comment if they want it, and if not, leave some comments on their pm.

I have pointed a lot of people over to this site... and they were the first ones to notice the "groups" of friends. To be honest, that's fine... it happens in any community. But it sure makes it hard for newbies and outsiders to become one of the group.

There are some terrific members here that don't fall into that category. I'm hoping that with Phill's changes, it will begin to appeal to everyone, not just the chosen few.

no offense meant to anyone ...but..on this site and any others..you get from it what you give to it..if you want to become part of the family..then you have to dive in...just like i had to..like everyone had to.. some came together already friends..like me and tammy and wilbur..but..you cant people to jump to your sub when there are already 75 to listen to..groups are necessary..as in anything..to partition off..so find a group you like and dive in..if u like the older bunch hehe thats me..come on..if you like the young ones..weee go for it..if you like straddlin the fence ..well hang on and dont complain if you step in somethin..on the way down ...grins at memories...

when i first came here..i was ranking and critiquing..it didnt take long for me to find out..ranks were acceptable..long as they were perfect.and critiques were not really wanted..ok.so..BIG DEAL...i dont plan on being the next top promoter in nashville so more time for me to listen to the happy singing on and off key of fun people or i can critique..ocasionally a newbie will come in and if i hear somethin i think they can fix..i will tell them..and in the same breath i will encourage them..

the only people that irritate me are those who give nines and leave oh wow that was excellent..ok..so it was excellent..then..well give it the ten you are SAYING it should have..in the south excellent means perfect not myyyyyyyyyyy fault!

If you don't want the fluff.....just ignore the comments. No one said you have to read or answer to what anyone wrote about your song. You choose to sub....people choose to say what they think...wheather it is fluff or not....and you don't have to read or answer....hell, you could even put in your description...I would appreciate if no one commented on this song.

First...everyone is mad becasue you had people like BHB leaving remarks on your subs....and now everyone is mad because there is no one like him around anymore!

The problem is....is hey, maybe, Tigger, or knightshow.....maybe YOU are the "bad singers" that everyone is talking about. What would you feel like if everyone told you that:

you were pitchy all the time...your mixing was bad...you have no range...your voice is shaky....the song did not suit your voice, etc. etc.

Would you feel supported if on every sub that is what everyone said....probably not. Would you know how to fix it without asking a professional what do to? again, probably not.

And as for those "bad singers" what you may thing is horrible, I may think is amazing. Everyone has different tastes....and just cause someone does not sing on key, they should not be singled out and only get 5's.....how do you know that someone, just becasue they cant' mix well...or sing on key...how do you know they did not spend 5 hours putting together a song? Don't they deserve a 10 for the amount of time they spent?

We (for the most of us) are not professionals. Hell, I don't have half a clue when it comes to singing. Till a couple of months ago, I did not even know what falsetto meant....or how to keep a vibrato by keeping my jaw relaxed....and I sure as heck could not tell you what you are doing wrong just by one karaoke sub.

Everyone else here seems to be happy about the place....and does not complain.

The problem is....is what is "critique" to some....may be "offesive" to others...and then the problems start...and then you have a whole forum of people getting upset because someone said that "oh....they don't like my tone...well, I can't change my tone!"

This will never change here...and even on some other "professional" sites I know, it is the same way. Where my original songs are, I get just as much "fluff" as I do here.

And, if people want to "fluff" me, I don't care. It is more fun just knowing that my friends are here enjoying my music, which what I thought was supposed to be the point of the site in the first place.

Disclaimer: in no particular order and no offense to anyone- so much BS to sift thru and so little time... I'll address the easy stuff first- if this subject is getting on your nerves, I believe you have the power to NOT read the damn thread or contribute to it, effectively adding to the nerve grinding you are talkin about... moving on...

the no comment option, as I have stated earlier to the original poster, is simply an OPTION for those members who know the comment game and wish to skip it JUST as the no rating option gives those who don't wish to be rated the OPTION to skip the rating game we know is played... why is that so hard to understand??? I believe this site is called a karaoke forum, NOT a karaoke self esteem support group... I really don't care if someone likes my songs or not, I didn't record it for them, but I don't need to read the blatant lies (I am sorry I mean fluff) tagged to my subs because some people think that will get me to listen to their stuff so they can get the same returned fluff... with the OPTIONS of No comments and No rating, it effectively kills any further debate on these issues because those who want that stuff can get it and those who don't can go without it... these are just OPTIONS and if members WANT ratings and comments then guess what??? yes! that is right! they can still have that OPTION! but tig, what if a member doesn't want rated but still wants comments??? YES! they still have that OPTION!!! but wait tig, what if a member wants to be rated but no comments?? I shouldn't speak for someone else, but no Tammy I wouldn't think anyone'd think you didn't deserve a top spot. You are clearly an incredible singer...I've never heard you do anything bad and I'm not fluffing.

How many ways can people keep repeating themselves though...to me the bottom line is, there is a group of people who are the "family" here. They're nice and insulated and happy. They mostly get 10's and lots of comments so they have no reason to be irked. On the other hand, there's many more members who are not included, no matter how much they comment, no matter how much they reach out, no matter how much they try, no matter how DAMN GOOD their subs are. And they're sick of it.

I am sorry if that is hard for the happy people to understand, BUT IT IS A FAAAAAAACT. The exception for me is you, Tammy, who did reach out to me.

To Happies who receive kudos and therefore don't seem to mind when abysmal singers get high scores and kudos: try to imagine the frustration of subbing a good quality song and watch it be ignored or scored low while other subs that anyone with a brain could tell is NOT GOOD is way up high. Also, try to imagine how it feels to not have your posts responded to except by the occasional sympathetic soul. If you're not in a certain group, and you're new, your posts are IGNORED; I've been there.

Here's a suggestion to the Happy Family: REACH OUT, AND LET OTHERS IN ON YOUR BUFFET and you won't have to listen to us squeak like the wheels we is (although it might be way too late for some who've already given up).

sometimes..its two days between when i sub and can listen agin..and i miss so many subs..every day there are new names..when you work a forty hour week...have kids..a home...chores...etc...

as i said earlier..when i came here it was up to me to jump in and say heyyyyyyyyyyy here i am..notice me..and eventually they did and i have made some great friends..

I agree with how much "fluff" there is and how disappointing it is to listen to someone sing the same song as you and receive the same comments that you do when that singer was out of tune, etc.

I've asked for bad comments along with good ones and if you'll look at some of the comments I've gotten, one of them said, "We don't give bad comments here.. It doesn't work that way here."

The last two summers I've entered a karaoke contest and this summer the first night I had a majority of the audience tell me they loved me & when I didn't even place in the top 3 there was a loud scene at one table that didn't agree. One of the 3 judges came to talk to me and said that he was the only judge that liked me but didn't know why the other 2 didn't. The next week I made it into the semi-finals. The semi-finals came and I didn't make it into the finals. I had a ton of people come up to me that day and later to say they loved what I had done. Again one judge liked me and the other 3 didn't.

I want to find out what it is about my singing that apparently disagrees with some people & thought this site would help me do that. But when I get nothing but great comments and very few comments but 50+ views it makes me wonder what others are thinking, good or bad. There is such a thing as a tactful way of giving a criticism, it doesn't have to be done cruelly.

Just my $.02 (or $1.02 worth - sorry for the book).

A new Day- I quit subbing because of the blatant lying in comments on subs and the transparent reasons to get people to comment that have nothing to do with "honesty" or even an honest attempt at critique... the whole mentality of "you listen to mine and comment or I won't listen to yours" is just insane... the case has been made by many others that time constraints, real life and speed of connection all contribute to why some people cannot play that game... how many people have left recently that pointed to those reasons for leaving??? I can give you links to their goodbye threads or send you a copy of the threads that have been deleted in case ya missed them... it doesn't surprise me that you missed all my subs... enjoy the fluff...

Tigger- you summed it up very well and, if after all that has been said on this subject, if some people still don't get it or see the bias then there is no explaining it to them... I don't know how many more ways to explain it except to keep using smaller and smaller words... denial must be wonderful and ignorance is bliss...

FoxeRoxy- ya hit it on the nail hun... kinda defeats the purpose when all the comments are the same no matter the quality or talent of the singer or sub... it is very disappointing to see awful singers get the same remarks and comments as exceptional singers...

Sheraokee- have you seen how people get JUMPED on this site if they give even a SLIGHT negative in a comment? hell they get jumped if they give a 9 god forbid... why in the world would I want to become part of THAT machine??? I have never been a sheep and have always spoken my mind- two things not really accepted here obviously... and I am changing the system by pushing for the NO COMMENT OPTION or did we all miss that point??? I can go over it again if we really really need to...
