man, I've been doing karaoke since 96' and have never had an incident like that.
I truly am sorry for anyone that's had to deal with something like that.

I did have a large, short lady fall trying to step up on the stage. but she was ok.

and another time I had to pound on a guy for hitting his wife in front of me, no guy should
ever hit his wife. just how I feel. so I made him feel it.

No deaths, but a lady had a seizure this weekend right in the middle of all the action! EMS called, lights go up, music stops, etc. She hit her head on a few tables on the way down so we insisted she stay put until EMS arrived. It was a HUGE night and half the crowd left. I thought it was over. BUT after they took her away and we started back up, it ended up going until 2:30am. A banner night!! Reports the next day were that she was fine and was released.

no deaths, but we've had some close calls

i say you get another stripe as a karaoke vet when there's a fight during your karaoke night. one venue i hosted at had fights from time to time where once i saw someone emerge completely bloodied on their chest and torso. it's a restaurant and they were stabbed with a regular knife. scary.

another venue where my company is at, a security guard was killed. broke my heart. it was on our karaoke night. the killer skipped out on his check and the guard embarrassed him. killer left the premises, came back and shot him on karaoke night. the venue dropped us for about a year and now we're back. i've even worked there since then. pour dude. horrible and senseless.

as a KJ i've witnessed several scary fights where i feared for everyone's safety. two of the biggest dudes size-wise got into it once (which is a shame because i know them both and they're both great guys who don't know each other) and they started to throw bar chairs in a crowded bar. my God. i thought we'd all be killed. and one of those big dudes was an off-duty cop. so, i thought we'd all be dead. but other off-duty cops pulled him outta there before it hit the press.

but the one that sticks out the most: a hefty-sized couple were dancing and acting out. i decided to kick the show up a notch and play some ratchet music because everyone was partying. bad move. at that time we still had the small tv on a tv stand instead of the flat screen which can be perched outta everyone's reach. i tried to move the tv stand, but the couple found a way to dance near it, trip over it and it fell. the chick fell on top of the tv with her back against it and her hefty male friend fell on top of her chest. i saw her eyes roll to the back of her head and she was knocked out.

the entire room was roaring in laughter and standing ovation and had no idea she was knocked out for real. folks are used to seeing a spectacle weekly during my gigs, it seems so they were applauding like cool here's the weekly spectacle. meanwhile i'm trying desperately to pull this linebacker sized guy off the chick who now is turning blue with her mouth open and eyes closed. i thought she was dead. her back was pinned to the small tv on the ground and this drunk big dude was laughing and had his full weight on her. when i showed him that she was out he was like, naw, she's a prankster, she's just foolin'. her friends came by laughing but a few minutes later, we were all concerned. she was still out cold. they unbuttoned her shirt, put cold water on her. she came to. and started crying and chattering her teeth. complaining that she was cold. a stretcher came. ambulance. the show was stopped. i was nervous as hell they'd sue or charge us with medical bills. knock on wood, nothing ever happened afterwards. i thought what if she was paralyzed? she definitely had a concussion. what if she was pregnant or anything. man. i learned to be very careful when you turn up the show a notch.
