This has been something that has plagued me for a while now. I am looking for a durable, quality mic stand that I can use with the Shure Super 55 microphone. Due to the way the XLR cable plugs into the S55, there are some mic stands that just won't work. Particularly those with release grips/handles that are at the top of the mic stand.

The most durable one I have found so far is the Ultimate Support Pro-SB

The only down side is the locking nuts at the top interfere with the XLR cable. I am going to Home Depot today to see if I can find something to replace the locking nuts that won't interfere with the XLR connection.

In the meantime, who is using a Shure Super 55 and what mic stands do you recommend for it?

Any mic stand will do, chris. I’m using the grip style. No xlr cable will fit unless you file/trim the side-end with a flat steel metal file, easier to use would be an abrasive stone bit & attach to your power drill. (sorry to include the file in the pic, having a senior moment I can’t recall the exact name for it). Make sure you align first. Mic not attached to the mic stand, connect the cable to the mic & mark left & right end before filing to get the exact placement. Don't file too much. Always, file a little & try the fit until you get the exact trim.

After a trip to the Home Depot, it dawned on my that I could just file down the XLR connectors as needed. Thanks for the parallel tip, Brian. I have a Dremel tool with some of those attachments. Will be doing some grinding later today.
