Sound Choice Gem Series on sale. All 6000 songs for $3300 til Dec 31.
I know some of you despise Sound Choice, but they are always my first pick if I have them in my library. Seriously gonna try to put the money together for this deal. Trying to put together music for a second set of shows this coming year and this sure would help.
Just throwing it out there for those interested. Just wish they would extend the offer longer since it really is a hard time of the year to part with $3300! :-|

I believe they self finance it if you can't get it all up front. I think it's interest free. If so, it would be foolish to pay for today, what you could pay for tomorrow.

8) Personally If I were looking to license SC, I would wait until the legal difficulties were resolved. If you have to license, installment might be the best way to go. If down the road you had to turn back in the product you would only be out for what you used.

I guess I wasn't aware that there are legal difficulties. What exactly is happening? I realize they are licensing their product but I assume that means I am buying the rights to use it for it's intended use and so forth blah, blah, blah. I realize there is a renewal after so many years, according to SC not very much can't remember the exact figure.

Since I am trying to put together another system what is the best way to get a good library with good coverage. Before Chartbusters went out of business they were selling their entire library for less than the normal price on the GEM series. Every time the Chartbusters guy called to check if I was ready to buy yet, the deal got sweeter. The SC library at least covers the stuff that everybody will always want to sing...But it doesn't cover much else. Just looking through what it does have I know there is a lot I need to buy. I know it covers all the foundations and the bricks plus a lot more. It does lack a lot of stuff I already have for my first setup. I know where I can get most everything I have, and all the companies I can get stuff from. I like Zoom, had pretty good luck with Sunfly although most of their older stuff is hit or miss. Pop Hits Monthly is generally good and so forth.

I am currently redoing my song book I will be looking that over as I am doing it. I am gonna try to come up with a must have list, and try to not buy a bunch of stuff nobody sings and go from there.

Any suggestions on getting a new library together would be greatly appreciated.

EMI is suing SC over licensing issues and much of it is related to the GEM series. EMI is asking to have all the GEM series licensing returned. As the product is leased and not purchased, some are worried.

Personally, I don't see anything at all like that happening but you should seek advise from your own legal counsel. Or, maybe contact EMI with your concerns, if you do have any.

If that does concern you, tricerasoft has SBI starter packs at a good price. I know there is a 5000 song set of their top sellers for $3000. Those are owned also, not leased so there is another option.

Unfortunately there is no 'must have' list that will apply to everyone. What works well in my shows, others say they've never heard done at theirs. A club can have great success with say Red Solo Cup - but in the club directly next door, it would never get sung. When I had multiple clubs, I thought I could use basically the same library as my other clubs, turns out each club patrons wanted different things so I ended up buying special requests for the other clubs, but ended up being of no use at the rest of the places.

The 'must haves' are the songs your singers at any particular club want to sing. Keep a request sheet handy for your singers to fill out what they want - then try to get them either on custom discs or downloads if you use them. What i've been doing now is getting them on downloads, then making sure I have that song on a custom disc I buy - yes buying the song twice, but just want to make sure I have my bases covered.

I recommend to jump on it, you can't beat it.... The EMI lawsuit isn't really EMI at all , but a rouge lawyer, which will go nowhere...

Holy cow, Lon! We agree again!

Yup, Lon's right. It's all a matter of what YOUR venues make popular.

While I buy regular mfrs. discs rather than customs ( to get unknown biggies that happen to be included) I wait until there are 2-3 requests for any song before buying- too many "one-customer" duds. Examples would include Adele and old Michael J. Look at "Red Solo Cup". EVERYONE said I should get it, so I did- and not one single singer has done it. The Beatles? I've got every song they ever did- and a grand total of 3 singers in decades of being a host.

As for the GEMS: ANY host who pays to use that set prior to the outcome of EMI vs. Slep-Tone is not only completely uneducated in his/her own business, leaving themselves liable for lawsuits, but is- in general- just too dumb to be running a business.

If you THINK you need the GEMS for some reason, at least wait for the conclusion of the lawsuit in question.

See for me, many of the GEM songs would be done (I think). I will be posting a top 500 songs at the end of the year, i'll cross reference to see what of those are actually on the GEM series.

I'll bet you I've got more Beatles songs than you do (non-repeats)... I've got a bunch from SBI. :reddevil: :reddevil: :reddevil: :reddevil: :reddevil: :reddevil:

I have 130 (187 if you count repeat titles).

I've got both titles. Now... if only I were doing a show.

Beatles = 152 (no dupes). Their solo efforts after they broke up not included, such as Lennon’s Imagine & plastic ono band albums, McCartney & wings, Ringo & George etc. But that number is puny compared to the other mega list artists: Sinatra = 206 & Elvis = 350 (also no dupes). :)

Quick search on songbookslive and I have 141 without dupes.

There are two dupes listed: "Help"/Help!" and "Something"/"Something In The Way She Moves"

I'd be interested in figuring out what the 10 or so songs that I don't have. "Baby It's You" is one.

A quick search on icroons and I can find few more that aren't in my collection... yet.

Beatles songs do get sung few times a month with Twist & Shout being the most popular.

And to get back to the topic... I use the version from my GEM series. :)

btw - 132 Sinatra & 438 Elvis

For Twist And Shout, I personally Prefer the Zoom Version over the Sound Choice Version.

=)
