How many times over the years have you had that [ Fill In The Blank ] singer that for whatever reasons tries to sing the "Instrumental Break" words that pop up on some karaoke graphics?
I had one last Saturday that totally cracked me up. I actually laughed out loud for it.

I've had that happen at my shows (the rare ones that I have done) on an occasion or 2. You just can't help but laugh about it when it happens (whether the Singer did it intentionally or was too drunk to realize otherwise). I have also witnessed it happen at other KJ's shows as well.

Sorry......didn't mean to imply there was anything wrong with it. It has happened a few times to me in the past few years. Usually it is someone that has had a few too many. This particular rendition of the instrumental break was particularly funny because he stretched it out over the entire 16 bars. The singer was completely tone deaf so the song as a whole was horrible. But the instrumental break sing-along saved it and cracked up the crowd (and me!)

I trigger various dancing animated GIFs during most of the intrumental breaks to keep everyone entertained. No long void to fill for my singers!

I've had nights when the regulars were being silly and yelled at each other for not counting down out loud or singing instrumental break.

I do it on occasion depending on my mood, chant very slowly "Iiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnssssssstttttrrrrrrruuuuummmmeeeeennnnnnttttaaaaallllll". Wouldn't work for a song like Dusic, whose instrumental break lasts 40 bars and nearly 90 seconds - I can't hold my breath that long!

I've had it done plus had the rare one who looks at it with a puzzled expression and says, "Those aren't the right words."

16 Bar Instrumental Break (or more) = Adult Beverage Break!

If I'm in a goofy mood, will occasionally sing the "Instrumental Break". It's at those times when I also sing the dots, and logos too (anything that comes up on screen).
For the versions with pictures during the breaks I will sometimes offer commentary on the picture. One of my favorites is the picture that comes up in the middle of Huey Lewis And The News - Working For A Living (JV0037-3). "What the heck are those guys doing?" "What kind of job is that?"

At my casino gig, I usually grab one of my balloon instruments (guitar) and go on stage and perform the instrumental break solo. It makes the singer less uncomfortable and gives the audience something fun to watch during the break. As soon as the break is over, I exit the stage. One time I didn't do it and a singer yelled out to me, "Hey, where is my guitar player for the instrumental break?" That told me that they like it.

I had a funny one tonight. A friend of mine sang the SBI version of Wagon Wheel and started singing "dot dot dot dot dot dot dot dot" during the break, because it has a bunch of dots as a timer.

I have a regular singer at one of my shows that always tells the crowd what key each song he sings is in. It's still funny and he does it every time.

Had a guy years ago that would sing songs that have humming displayed and swiped on the screen like mmmm, mmmmmm, mm, mmm (you get the idea) He'd always phonetically say each M instead of humming it. It was funny at first, but got old quite quickly. Imagine MMM MMM MMM MMM by Crash Test Dummies sung that way every time (not that anyone can imagine that song being sung anyway ).

I don't hum or anything during instrumental breaks. I use it as an opportunity to rest my voice and have a couple of puffs on my fag.
