That sounds like a great option ... SAID NO ONE EVER !! From an economic & business stand point you would have to be a fool to pay for that service. I have to much to do tonight to give my full opinion, not that it matters anyway, but this gives me a chuckle.

8) If hosts are balking at 99.00 a month good luck at getting them to pay an extra 1200.00 a year just to have access to SC. It will be under the same rules I would imagine if a track becomes unlicensed it will be dropped from the service, and no longer available to the host that might need it for his or her show. This would be one of my key indicators that SC is on it's last legs if they join DTE on the cloud service.

I've said it before, and I will say it again. If soundchoice ever signed up with Digitrax i would start buying from them in a heartbeat. Hell I'd even try to start hosting again. Especially if that then meant that they then became available as part of the media pro option from the media pro option.


I don't see that happening tho. i don't know how much of a cut soundchoice was getting, but the custom disc site in Australia was charging $5/track for a custom soundchoice disk.

I don't know if they would be very happy with only being able to charge $2.49. I guess that does mean if they do show up on the cloud, then they truly are on there last limbs.. a real shame.

well I guess we will all just have to wait and see.

That would be my hope, but I'm not holding my breath. I believe the KJMP can charge more then 1 credit for a song, when you unlock a song it says, "Credit(s) Needed: 1" indicating that some songs need more than 1 credit.

Unless something changes between Stingray and SC, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for SC to hook up with Digitrax for downloads.

Actually they do... Sound Choice doesn't own the music anymore - Stingray does. From what I understand, Stingray will license tracks to SC for physical discs only and SC is not really doing that anymore.

I would stay out of the production end if I were them. Most new music is crap, who'd want to pay to reproduce it?

I don't think that is quite right. SC did sell most of their catalog. They own the new stuff out right. But SC has the rights for pro-level sales while Stingray has the home user level. SC's issue is with getting non disc\future rights from the Rights holders.

Producing "New Music" for Karaoke does not necessarily mean music from the year 2013. It can also consists of songs from the 50's, 60's, 70's 80's, etc... that has not been released in a Karaoke Format before. That would be considered "New Music" (for us KJs) as well.

In addition, I believe Stingray has all of the streaming/download rights, while SC must adhere to physical media for those songs sold ( kinda makes Kurt a fellow Luddite - see, it ain't just me... :lol: ). If so, then the only way SC could make money with DT is if:

1) SC brokers a deal between Stingray & DT and collects a broker's percentage/fee for doing so ( though why Stingray would need SC for that I have no idea- but Derek IS there, so anything can happen), and

2) Stingray, located in Canada, manages to license all of their product in the U.S. for purposes of downloading with DT.

Other than that, I don't see how "DigiChoice" will come about. However, if it does, I think it should be called Digi-Sting. 8) :wink:

actually the way I understand it, it wouldn't be soundchoice's job to get the licensing, that's the reponsibility of Digitrax, since they are the ones who are doing the selling.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so

James, I think you mean it wouldn't be Sting-Ray's job, since they would be the ones supplying the tracks.

If DT were to pay for the licensing, it stands to reason that they will have to have purchased the catalogue from Sting-Ray. Why would they license another company's product for them, even if it were possible, which it isn't. If Sting-Ray owns the catalogue, no one is going to license it FOR them.

However, Sting-Ray and DTmight enter into a partnership. Depending on how much income Sting-Ray is deriving from streaming/downloading it's tracks in Canada, and what DT is doing regarding income from it's new enterprise here. Maybe something more together would be better than much less apart...?

Of course, this would leave SC- locked into hard media- out in the cold, unless they started producing NEW tracks and got THOSE licensed for download- but the catalogue of previously produced tracks sold to Sting-Ray would not be part of their library.

Again, this would all be supposition based on the exclusion of Derek working on Sting-Ray to somehow, for no business reason that I can see-give Kurt a piece of the action. you just never know.....

Just my humble opinion, but after all is said and done, I think it'll be awhile before we see Sting-Ray and DT team up and offer the old SC tracks on the cloud.

DTE could get licensing just like they do for the other maus they carry, but Derek did say that Sting Ray is not interested in the pro market whatsoever. they only want the home market and leave the pro side to SC.

DTE isn't really in the discussion that I know of. I understand that SC and DTE talked at one point but those talks didn't move very far. And in that case I would assume that SC would still be responsible for the licensing and DTE would simply be the delivery system. The main points here are: The line between SC and Stingray is Pro versus home use. What holds SC up from advancing past physical media and future production is licensing from the license holders.

Stingray is very much into the pro market.
They just go where the money is bigger and easier by focusing on television, movies, video games, commercial advertising, and internet. Karaoke is a drop in the bucket and hardly worth the effort compared to what they are doing with their backing tracks now.
