Here's a question for all KJs. Would you rather buy a disc that was produced legally with terrible song choices or a disc that was produced with great song choices but you weren't sure if they had paid all of the proper fees to produce the disc?

I would go for option two. It's not my problem if the vendor paid the proper fees and dues. that is their problem.

If the disk was legal with poor song choices, why would you even want to buy it? just to add inventory?

I agree with Smoothedge69. Not my problem. I made the purchase from (what I believed to be) a reputable Manufacturer. As Joe C. always says... The worst that could happen to me in that case would be I would be given a Cease and Desist order for the use of those song tracks, and then I would have to suffer the consequences if I did not abide by that.

I assume all disc vendors have jumped through the hoops and so option 2 as well.

Agree, I don't care is a disc came with actual documentation from the publishers themselves stating that every song was in fact legal for use in every type of environment - if the songs are nothing people want, ask for or sing - it really doesn't make sense to get them.

Some people have a habit of buying whatever comes out because they want to have every song that MIGHT Get asked for. There are KJs out there that don't really follow music trends that closely and rely on the karaoke companies opinions of what it hot and what is not. I would have NO IDEA what was the new hot song in the Pop or Hip Hop world. That has to be what PHM has been relying on for the last year or more. The home user is probably more selective because they are looking for songs that they will personally want to sing.

I'm not big on current music trends because I do not like much of what is out there these days. So, if I get a request for a song I don't have, and it is available to buy in a download, I will buy it. I have been lucky, so far and been able to find everything on Tricerasoft, All Starr, or DTE, so I haven't had to buy any discs.

The world has moved on. For KJ's, predicting is no longer necessary. Buy it on demand.
I still buy bulk collections from people for the gems that you can't find anywhere else and to boost selection and variety within the library. I don't have to have everything the pirates have, I just have to have better quality rips of anything that may be requested.

I'd probably buy neither. Not that I have a "pure" library--I bought some things early on before I was aware of the issue and I haven't replaced them. But now that I do know, if if is a company that is known for not licensing and doing hit and runs then I try to avoid those.

-Chris Thank you Roland. Wait til you get to the last book in that series! I heard it was pretty anti-climactic. I'm worried about not being happy with it.

Even tho I haven't hosted a show (in over 1 year now), I still purchase newer music just to keep my library up to date. Up until almost 2 years ago, I was purchasing PHM regularly for their Country and their Pop. I was familiar with their Country selections (because I listen to "New Country" on the radio), but I was never familiar with their Pop selections (because my listening tastes go more towards the oldies (50's thru 80's)), but I still bought their Pop (blindly out of the trust BFFL referred to). So, once I started to notice that they weren't putting out any recognizable mainstream Country hits (around the end of 2011), I stopped buying both of their lines (Pop and Country).
