KJams is only one that I know of - and most kj's that I know that use Mac still don't care for it & actually run Bootcamp with a Windows platform & a Windows based software because they are more stable plus doesn't have nearly the functionability that most hosting software for Windows have.
http://karaoke.kjams.com/

Why are you accessing the internet with your show computer anyway just out of curiosity. I've never had my show computer on the internet in 6 years except for updates & upgrades. Even if I do download a song I bought on the spot (which is rare) I have a secondary computer for that & then transfer the download to my show computer.

Almost all virus infections these days are the result of 1) not patching your system in a timely fashion and/or 2) clicking on something you should not have clicked on/opening a file you should not have opened.

Doing number (1) above will prevent 99% of the issues you could typically ever run across

This applies to Windows, MacOS, Linux, and every other OS ever made btw....

KJams is the only one I have ever seen used on a Mac in a public show. A fellow KJ of mine uses it and has regretted it since the first show he ran with it, but he spent too much money on the Mac and Software to just dump it for something else.

I run XP SP2 with no updates whatsoever for 5 years. No anti-virus software other than defender.

My other laptop has Win 7 and no updates and no anti-virus software either.

I don't go to any sites that are shady or illegal.... guess what ... no viruses either.

Like Lon said "Why are you accessing the internet with your show computer anyway just out of curiosity."

But what makes you say you have no viruses if you have no anti-virus to detect them

Why not install Microsoft Security Essential, it's FREE and works perfectly

Myth = Mac's don't get viruses.

The first MAC virus was created in 1982 for the Apple-II. Today there are many, many more such as the INIT-29-B virus, HyperCard HC-9507, Hong Kong virus, OSX/Leap-A, OSX.Macarena, the trojan horse AppleScript.THT, OSX.Lamzev.A and OSX.TrojanKit.Malez trojans, OSX.RSPlug.D trojan, OSX.Iservice and OSX.Iservice.B trojans, OSX/HellRTS trojan...the list goes on.

The only way to guarantee your computer (PC or MAC) will never get a virus is to never plug it into the internet, and turn it off, other than that, you NEED to get a quality antivirus program installed on your machine, and keep it updated regularly.

Guess the karaoke cloud will kill the "never had my show computer on the internet" folks and it is coming. Downloaded software and content is going away sooner than you will be ready for.

Kjams is wonderful. I have been using it for over 2 years now. Dave Cotter has the best customer service should you need it or have questions, just log on via ichat and he will walk you through questions/issues.
I should add we have run a weekly show and another monthly show using this software, no issues, only +++ to report. Hope this helps

If you get a virus with Internet Explorer you're in a heap of trouble. I have found that by using Firefox; in the worst case scenario if you get a virus; you can just uninstall Firefox and the re install a fresh copy. The virus seems to just hi-jack the browser and not the entire operating system. If you get the virus while using IE, you can't remove the browser and then re-install. so I would suggest using firefox whenever surfing the interebet. I'm sure it's not fool-proof but it's better than nothing.

Disagree. First, the Karaoke Cloud isn't doing the business you think it is. At least not around here. I don't know of a single KJ who uses it or ever wants to. Smart KJs will always want control over their music and renting it just will never be an option.

Downloaded software and content is going away? Seriously? Exactly how do you think devices will get their software and content in your predicted future?

Soooo.... my bar was running a KOD1100 with touchscreen in our main room, and we got rid of it because it did this weird skipping thing with songs that we couldn't get it to stop doing, AND updating it was a nightmare every time I wanted to add new songs. We switched to a macbook with kJams, and it's been working great for us-- ebing able to buy music as it's requested is much, much better than waiting for people to ask for something, not have it, and then need to add it-- or buy something because people *might* want it, then discover you've wasted money. Having integration with tricerasoft's store has been awesome.

What problems have people had with kJams? I just haven't experienced anything I wouldn't expect from basically any software not made by a major company.

I wish more programs had that feature, it would kill the "other" cloud service, for venues that have reliable internet!

This is, of course, inaccurate. Viruses can be transferred to a computer via CD/thumb drive/Bluetooth or any other form of file transfer...

curious...
what is the integration to Tricerasoft?
how does it differ from having a browser open to Tricerasoft?

Less hoops to jump through, a much better search utility, 10,000 unique songs available for streaming from SunFly and singers can see all the songs in the web server (or you could just add the 70k songs to your books 8)) Personally I don't trust the internet only downloading, too many bad experiences, (like last night) if they only supported KJMP, I'd go back.

Not necessarily, I have a laptop I can bring to download to a flash drive & transfer to the show computer.

so integrated means streaming instead of downl;oading? like the cloud?

Every rig I have is connected to the Internet. My show computers are probably safer than other machines I have because they only get used for a very limited scope of sites. These are Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines with default security configurations running Microsoft Security Essentials. Not saying they are bulletproof, but even if one were to be compromised, I can rebuild any of them in less than an hour.
