I have decided that since there is obviously absolutely nothing that any of the karaoke manufacturers can do to shut down hard drive sellers, I am going to start my own hard drive selling site.

Someone needs to compete with KJBill.

http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/emd/4091738569.html

I am designing the site now.
I can beat him on price, selection and service.

Look for my ads soon.

Hell yeah. Just toss up a site, wait for an order, then make a drive.
Get an FTP site, place it off shore, get paid to grant people access to it.
I can even set up an iRC channel.

Seems all of these are profitable an untouchable.

The way I see it, so long as I claim the income on my taxes, I can avoid even that aspect of it. The FBI and karaoke companies certainly aren't going to do anything about the copyright and trademark issues.

Well we have all seen enough websites that offer this kind of service continue to operate out in the open with little to no interference. Seems like nobody can stop them or cares to stop them. Maybe I was an idiot for paying for all of my CDG'S. But at least I can sleep good at night.

I'm guessing you start up cost should be fairly low. And running it should not take up very much of your time either.....

I hope that readers of this thread realize I am just venting more frustrations.

However, it seems as if it is a safe way to make a few bucks on the side. The hard drive sellers operate out in the open marketing themselves through social media, Craigslist and word of mouth. The karaoke manufacturers have not been able to get rid of them. The site I noted above has been in operations for at least 5 years now.

Some say that Sound Choice allows the hard drive sellers to exist so they have KJ's to sue. I don't believe that at all. I do believe that KJBill has figured out a way around getting nailed or he would have been busted by now. In all my communications with him over the years he has been very bold and confident that he can't be busted. I am beginning to believe him.

There isn't any "confusion" here. It is all out in the open. Does anyone think that KJBill made these tracks and attached unauthorized trademarks to them? If so we might be able to nail him. :D

I am sorry to say I do!
It creates a revenue stream for them (SC).
Why would they try to stop it?

They could certainly go after him with trademark confusion!

I firmly believe that only the primary copyright holders could do anything about it. SC may or may not have been granted the authority to make their own versions of the works, but I would bet dollars and donuts that they didn't wave their rights to those works or pass the rights along with the works. And why would the primaries care? They got their money (hopefully) from the Manus. SC probably doesn't want the primaries in it because that would cut them out. So they appear to be fine with going after the people that hire the people that buy from KJBill.

And, yes, I knew you were venting or I would have never "liked" the post.

Well at least they're getting a little smarter and not including the software. There was site up last year called MusicExtreme and they sold a complete laptop with all the karaoke music and included hacked copies of different karaoke software installed, including Karma, but Latshaw Systems contacted the internet division of the FBI and had them shut down within 2 weeks. It was a lot easier for them to shut them down for software copyright infringement because it was the copyright holder themselves that were making the complaint. The problem with the music part is that the original copyright holders aren't making the complaints. That would require either the artists or the music publishers to contact the authorities directly. Sound Choice and other karaoke makers only license the music and can only lay claim to the public display of the cdg lyric screens they make. They probably could make complaints themselves for these hard drive pirates, but it's just way too complicated with all the required parties involved. Only further proof that the current system of music publishing is way too complicated and they could learn a few tricks from software publishers. That's why iTunes has been so successful, because it was made by intelligent engineers and not the music publishers who are so retarded they don't see the problem with their own overly complex system.

I truly believe that if the American music publisher's rules weren't the strictest in the world, and companies like Sound Choice could simply offer direct dowloads, this piracy problem wouldn't be as big as it is. Anyone agree?

SC does own the copyright to their musical recreations (you can verify that through the copyright office - or at least they did) - which is what is being copied and sold. They do not own the original musical works - but that is not in question so the original copyright holder of the original music wouldn't need to be involved in that aspect.

You mean like All Star Karaoke does every day of the week. Seems they have no problem getting the deals to create karaoke and sell it, not sure why SC can't do it, it would seem to me they think they can make more money suing that producing. Maybe they should call All Star for some tips on running a business in the year 2013?
