What's a qualified 8.0 user?

Meaning they have a valid, licensed Windows 8 install with a valid product installation key.

Technically everyone dies suddenly too. You are alive......alive.....alive.....dead.

Because physical media is dead media. Thought we determined that already.

Btw....how many apps have you had delivered to your phone on physical media?

Reminds me of the movie Fletch.

Dr. Joseph Dolan: You know, it's a shame about Ed.

Fletch: Oh, it was. Yeah, it was really a shame. To go so suddenly like that.

Dr. Joseph Dolan: He was dying for years.

Fletch: Sure, but... the end was very... very sudden.

Dr. Joseph Dolan: He was in intensive care for eight weeks.

Fletch: Yeah, but I mean the very end, when he actually died. That was extremely sudden.

ZERO because I don't play the app game. It came with apps I have never used and probably won't. In fact until last April the phone I had wasn't even net capable and I had it since 2002 and had to get a new one as it finally quit working. It did everything I wanted it to which is make and receive phone calls. I don't play games on my phone, don't access the weather or any of it.

My phone is just that a phone I use it to make PHONE CALLS, in fact I have NEVER EVER sent 1 TEXT MESSAGE!

Today everyone is so wrapped up in their phone and I don't see what the big deal is.... but then again I'm north of 60 and really don't care. There is nothing so important that I can't wait to get home to do what I need to do and if there is I haven't found it yet.

I used to swear by the same thing - especially texting, if you had time to tap out a text, you have time to dial a number, but now I find it nice because often times I just want to ask a question without having to get into a conversation if I have no time but need an answer now.
My first 'smart' phone was 2 years ago - that was all she wrote. Very handy device that doesn't need to pull out the laptop and often has internet service when there is none around. All the apps I have are mainly tools, but do have some games (solitaire, crossword puzzles, etc).

Son of a Gun!!! You and I have something in common. My phone also has voice mail. I have the Motorola Razor phone from T-Mobile (for 7 years now... my first cell phone... took me long enough to get one).

Then you are in the minority. That is a simple fact. Just like people who will insist on having software on a CD/DVD.

The world has moved on.

I find "smartphones" make people dumb. How many people have been injured or killed because their faces were looking at their phones instead of the traffic or other things they should have been paying attention to? I also find many "smartphone" users are rude. You're in the middle of a conversation with you and their phone rings or they get a text or whatever and again their face in a the phone. I have an old cell phone and if I'm busy, it can go to voicemail and I refuse to text.

8) Finally found something in common with you tim, just the phone and answer machine, no text. When I drive I don't like even the radio on.

Well will wonders never cease. Tim we actually agree on something. Texans have found that texting and driving really don't go together and here in my city it has been outlawed and you will get a hefty ticket for it, and if I'm not wrong I think I saw something where the Gov. is about to or has signed a bill to out law it in the entire state.

For my locale, long battery life and good reception are the main factors in choosing a phone. There are no land lines in the neighborhood so the cell is it.

This will be the trend going forward. In many new residential developments, the phone companies are opting to strategically place cell towers instead of putting in copper for land lines. Much less capitol cost and maintenance and fewer legal issues dealing with property rights and easements.

Say what you want, smartphones are the current dominant form of making phones calls and rapidly becoming the dominant form of ALL communications, Internet usage, content consumption.

I too have my issue with how they are used (while driving, during what are supposed to be face-to-face communications, in movie theaters and other public spaces where the distract others, in restrooms....I can go on for a long time), but they aren't going away anytime soon.

Landlines are being dropped all over in favor of cell phones. Pay phones are becoming an artifact.
I have heard that car manus are going start adding a jamming device to disable cell phone signals while the cars in motion - kind of like GPS systems that won't allow you to enter data while driving. Not sure if I agree with that one or not if an emergency popped up that you couldn't stop (someone following you or needing to report something that would be dangerous for one to stop).

Too many issues to even mention with that type of scenario. However, making Bluetooth technology standard equipment in ALL cars would be a positive step. Making it a replaceable module and not integrated fully into vehicle systems would make it more economically feasible. Mandating items like this for consumers should be developed in a way so as to not create a burden on consumers...

There is actually one company making a push for land lines with some ads on the radio about Mom being sick and little junior can't find or doesn't know how to operate her cell phone. But if there was a lane line phone that was always in one place he can't just run to it and dial 911. My guess is little junior has his own phone and can operate it better than Mom but I can see how if one had a family then it might be cost prohibitive for every member to have a separate phone.

What one company offers out here is a land line type phone with a cell type reception. You plug it into the wall but the signal comes by air rather than a cable. I already had a cell so haven't tried it.

There are actually handy devices like this. The one I have is a Jabra Cruiser 2, which will not only provide hands-free calling, but allows me to stream my music collection or streaming internet radio through my FM speakers: http://www.jabra.com/products/speakerph ... a_cruiser2

When I am referring to land lines, I am referring to laying 10's of thousands of miles of copper to physically connect point a to point b.

I have posted before about how Verizon has petitioned states on the eastern shore to replace copper land lines with cell towers after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.

I have posted before about how developing countries are leapfrogging traditional telephone infrastructure in place of cell service.

The phone companies are adapting and obsoleting land line service. You can expect if there is any kind of natural disaster in your area that wipes out the physical infrastructure, your land line phone company will do whatever they can to get out of replacing the copper. Even in major metropolitan areas. It just isn't cost effective any longer.
