A good friend and karaoke singer friend of mine recently posted this to Facebook....thought it was pretty funny and good for a new thread....

Karaoke people...you ever find out that you divide songs into "Lists?" I naturally have a list of songs that I've sang, but what about the other lists? For example:

...the "Songs I've only done once, but I'll never do again because they sucked" list.
...the "Some knuckleheads suggested these songs to me just because I'm black" list.
...the "I really like these songs, but I know they're out of my range and I need to find someone else to sing them for me" list.
...the "So many people have tried this song and sucked, so you know you can at least do it somewhat better" list.
...the "I don't even like these songs, but because (insert name) is cool/a good friend/hot, then I'll try them" list.
...the "Some fool is actually willing to buy you a drink or offer you cash to sing these songs" list.
...and the one that I just added
...the "Songs that we all hate hearing (Summer Nights, Picture, Love Shack), but should be sung collectively by regulars on the first round to eliminate them for the night."

I'm sure you have more.

...Contest Winning songs
...Songs other people sing very well and love singing regularly, so choose something else.
...Songs that are too long to request if there is a big rotation.(Ex: Heart-Magic Man-great tune, but over 6 minutes long.)

...now you're just showing off songs....
...too many jaeger-bombs songs....
...bet you didn't expect to hear that come out of an old white guy songs....
...cross-gender songs....
...that song you can only sing as the only or last song of the night because it renders your voice useless....
...songs I only sing when my wife is with me at karaoke....

Songs Women use to enforce that "Girls Night Out" feeling....

Signature songs ( the singer's best song) mostly saved for use when following a good or popular singer...

"Go To" songs- when you're not really up for it, or have to put one in quickly, or are visiting a show for the first time and are unsure of sound or tracks.....

Songs that you love to sing, but that make for a buzz-kill at a karaoke bar....

I just keep track of "songs I've done" and songs on my "no no never not ever again" list.

for me it would be songs I would absolutely LOVE to try but am too chicken s*** to even attempt

oh and I forgot my favourite type of song. Songs that almost no one has heard of and when i sing it they will say something to the effect of "What the hell was that!?"

I keep lists by month. I'll usually grab a group of songs to work on or revisit and it goes into a list for the month. A new list starts at the beginning of the next month. Some songs transition from one month to the next. I can go back to a year, 2 years, 3 years, etc and see what I've done in that month in past years which is kinda cool.

I also have lists for all kinds of other things. My wife's favs, Bar favs parties and events I've performed at. I should make a list of my lists.
