What's funny, is that everyone complains about SGB, but everyone also has a set of them. Around here they do, that's for sure.

Yeah I have a set - 3 discs actually are in my workingsystem, I gave the rest to my 5 year old at the time (about 8 years ago) and SHE doesn't even like them lol - they sound funny against the same songs on SC, CB, even her Disney discs.

AGH. Half of the CB I have heard is just recycled SGB. I have even found some ASK that is recycled SGB. I was REALLY disappointed when I downloaded ASK's version of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and it was the SGB version in ASK packaging.

CB as SGB? I haven't heard it. CB had a pretty unique sound on most of their stuff. I didn't like most of it. The Country was ok but the rest was real hit and miss. But i didn't mistake any of it for SGB.

I've only heard 1 song only that CB and SGB matched up - Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd, otherwise I have over 100 CB discs and have not heard any others that were the same.
@smooth - What other songs have you heard that were the same between SGB and CB?

I knew All Star with alot the older title stuff (anything pre 2009 or 10) was alot of midi crap (possibly SGB), but their newer stuff is much better and sound like real musicians. However the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, wasn't a completely unusable version, and being it's the only version out (All Hits has it but they are SGB), it's the best version. Did All Star fix the lyric error in the beginning where they actually put the first verse line in
You've seen life through distorted eyes
You know you had to learn

Because it is not in the SGB/AH version where they jump right into the
The execution of your mind
You really had to turn

Yeah, they did fix the beginning of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. OK, I may have been exaggerating a bit, but that whole Lynryd Skynryd disc is the same as the SGB disk.

I can buy that the Skynyrd disc is the same between CB & SGB, like I said SImple Man was the one I came across when I was looking for it. So glad SC finally put it out, very good version.

Stupid me just bought the CB (DTE) version of Ballad Of Curtis Loew because a singer tried my SGB version and said it was not recognizable as being the song. Luckily I do have the SC Simple Man as that gets done nightly as well as the SBI (?-can't remember) version by Shinedown.

SC Skynyrd kicks. SBI is a second close for several songs but not as full on them.

That would be one of the tracks they used SBI (or at least the same supplier).

Well further to my earlier post I've changed my vote in the poll because I've recently been on to Urban Karaoke to purchased the seldom seen SC8386 "Here Comes The Funk!". So many cracking tunes that no other manufacturer would entertain, some of which even I haven't heard of before. Looking forward to singing these. Within the confines of music range and quality, Sound Choice are awesome!

SC doesn't make content. They make lawsuits.

Performing at a wedding tomorrow night. The bride wants Don't Stop Believing. The SC version has always missed the mark slightly so I purchased the KV version two weeks ago. I find it to be much improved over the SC version. The opening piano in the SC version is off and lifeless and the guitar solo is off. The KV version nails the opening piano (which can make or break this type of song) and the guitar is pretty darn close. It's a more modern version where they cut out one of the "Hold on to that feeling"s and has the Glee ending (which Journey does in shows these days). I would highly recommend it to anyone that wants an improved version over SC. It does have a slight timing issue in the last part but it's easy to get used to.

Better singers do gravitate toward more quality backing tracks. I've seen it at shows even in other states, and funny all of the kj's have stated similar to what i've stated and they run SC tracks primarily over other brands.

i have to disagree here, only the crappy singers who need all kinds of help request a specific version, at leat in a major metro area like Phoenix and Chicago from my experience. the great singers can make Idol Makers sound good.

So? With all due respect, Paradigm, we are Karaoke Hosts, not American Idol MCs, or hosts for professional singers. We get good singers, medium singers, and those with minimal talent- and out job is to do our best to make all sound as good as they can.

Im my area, brand requests are a constant- not just to help a "crappy" singer, but maybe because the "great" singer has become comfortable with a particular brand or version- even if they COULD make Idol Makers sound good.

Of course, the biggest disagreement here on this forum is what constitutes "quality tracks".

For my show, it's not my opinion that counts- it's POPULAR opinion.

It so happens that in my area SC is NOT the most popular- despite the fact that even I think they do a good- in general, with some bombs as well- job. Other brands are simply much more popular, and make the singers more comfortable- and that's my job. So, in a kind of sideways way, I agree with Lon. Singers actually gravitate to the hosts that carry their favorite versions.

Cue, I meant at a show. If different mans were offered, wouldn't you take the best even if you could sing with any of them?

Per my previous post- not neccesarily. A lot of singer become comfortable with a version that they have practiced at home. Most home buyer, not knowing the difference, will opt to pay less money for more choice quantity.

This means that they will get comfortable with brands like SGB ( over 1000 songs for under $100), Backstage/Ovation- often found in dollar-a-disc bins, or even decent yet less expensive "Department Store" multiplex brands like Party Tyme and Karaoke Party for the "tutorial" of the vocal tracks. The same would go for higher quality Pocket songs ( even Kurt will tell you they are the best for show tunes) who make consistant quality - yet lower priced tracks aimed at the home user.

Newer singers in particular who DON'T practice at home generally love DK because it is the ONLY brand designed specifically to help the new amateur singer.

Older singers- in my area- became used to Legends, MM ( production values are nil, but VERY accurate oldies reproduction) and other brands.

Once again referring to my post above, the only "best" is the one that customers prefer.

See, Timberlea, what you are really asking is: If people have a choice of what you, in your judgement ( in other words, YOUR favorite version) believe is the best version, why wouldn't they?

Because it's not neccesarily THEIR favorite version.

Now you know....
