He was the soul of that band and it isn't the same without him or his voice. Any interviews I have ever seen, James Young just comes across as a pompous schoolyard bully and Tommy Shaw as his "Yeah! What he said!" little side kick.

I've seen the current lineup several times and it really is missing a huge hunk of Styx. At first I thought Shaw was just trying to rule the sets but then I found out it was a band choice to stick with the harder edge and leave some of the progressive stuff out.
BTW, DD does shows too these days.

BTW, DD does shows too these days. I have seen Styx twice now with Tommy as lead. I think he is awesome. I never liked DD as much but appreciate that what he sang, no one else does as well. -Chris

Wish I'd been having all this folk revival where I'm at, but I tend to get an older crowd, so maybe that's the problem. With any luck some sweet young thing will come into my show one night and sing some Suzanne Vega for me.... Gives me something to hope for anyway....

I know a lot of country purists out here who are just as mad about what one friend calls "Rock n Roll camping out in Nashville" as others are about banjos in rock n roll.
Truth be told, I think there's a lot more rock artists crossing over to country than country artists crossing over to rock. Just off the top of my head, Darius Rucker, Aaron Lewis of Staind, Bon Jovi, etc and then there were always the crossover Southern Rock groups like Lynyrd Skynyrd, 38 Special and all of those ilk and of course the Eagles.
Me, I just like music and I don't give a hoot about genre. Part of why I think Avicii is so damn good - coming up with some pretty original combinations of folk and dance music.

i'm with you Jer.
A lot of the country now is not country, and i can't remember the last female country artist that was country and not pop (besides Gretchen wilson...kinda) but it doesn't matter too much to me as long as it sounds good. i don't care the label put on it. i am not a hip-hop/rap fan, but Gangsta's Paradise is still a great song to me.

1. The Hostess pie comeback is awesome. However, I haven't tried one yet since they have been reintroduced. I was at a gas station yesterday and was almost tempted to, but they did not have my favorite flavor--berry. They have better taste good. If they lost the recipe I will be  2. They made a big deal about the come-back of Twinkies, and yes... they are slightly smaller, but they seem to taste like I remember them (as a kid)... just like the come-back of Bonomo's Turkish Taffy ( www.groovycandies.com ).

You just ruined my new years resolution Cueball by turning me on to that wonderful candy website; Being 58 yrs. old i have fond childhood memories of the candy that to my surprise is still available there. I was really surprised to see that Clark bars were still available, being that I remember the company going out of business in my city (Pittsburgh PA) .

I'm of the feeling that folk, being somewhat easier to sing in many ways , and evoking some actual feelings, might be just what the doctor ordered for karaoke. It's just strange seeing 25-30 year olds perform it
As for me, no problem- I grew up with it, and have always enjoyed it. I hope it skyrockets.
Speaking of that, I wonder about how it might be delineated. Would one consider the ( relatively) newer Seasons In The Sun or Billy Don't Be A Hero folk?
Not really a Mumford fan, but PP&M and Pete Seeger are favs... LOVE Kingston Trio's Reverend Mr. Black.....  When I have sung at my shows I did quite a bit of Folk Music, it never really left so no real comeback. I have done MTA, 500 Miles, Little Bitty Tear, Baby The Rain Must Fall and of course Lemon Tree.
