8) Rick if hosts really wanted this nonsense to stop they would do what I have done boycott SC for the last 5 years and don't give them any reason to come after you. No income no SC, starve the beast. I guess if you really wanted to play it safe you could always just pay them off and lease GEM that is the other choice.

Well Lone ranger you definitely keep me amused. Comparing karaoke to the Roman Empire was ... just wow.

You remind me of people spouting off about cases I've been involved in (including murders and rapes) and some of the speculations they came up were just outrageous.

Karaoke Download - $1.99
Karaoke Disc - $19.99
Lone Ranger Speculations - Priceless

8) I believe tim Bazza wanted to know what I thought a good track record was, in fighting piracy. Also we should really think about the type and scope of commitment needed to really solve the problem. This piecemeal current approach will not work in 100 years at the rate it is now being employed. There are more estimated pirates today than when the program started, if you look at the figures released at the summit. It is not having the the desired effect of stopping piracy. Really the purpose of these suits is to drive sales like Kurt has said. It is the new marketing plan for SC and CB/PR/WWD/DTE. The one real way to protect one's self if they are still running karaoke service is the pay off these manus. Once they get their cut they will leave the host alone. The one thing the host has to make sure of is that the people they pay will pay the manu. Not have the situation of APS withholding the money from SC. To win the war you still need three items.

1. A comprehensive overall plan of attack.

2. The authority to implement such a plan.

3. The resources necessary to carry out the plan.

Without all three of these the problem will not be solved and the manus will be gone before the pirates are.

8) Sorry Athena it is already winter for some of us. The sun does come out eventually and melts even the biggest snowball.

I am sorry for your losses Lone Ranger, try and remember even in the winter of our lives happiness is a choice (as is bitterness).

8) What's not to be happy about Athena? I have had a good nineteen years of hosting. During actually the " Golden Days of Hosting", I have not been run out of business by pirates or manus, life has been good. I can honestly say that I have never bothered a publisher and have contributed nothing to waking up the sleeping giants. Unlike some hosts I have never even been sued, or named in a suit. I will check out not having to buy insurance policies to continue in business. Life has been indeed good.

Your posts show your unhappiness Lone Ranger, and while it may not be issues related to the current state of the industry, this is where your bitterness is reveling itself. Peace to you.

8) Are you sure it isn't your unhappiness because you couldn't change my mind about the current state of karaoke?

Yes very sure...I learned years ago that you can't change anybody's mind but your own. If my posting here and other places on the internet help 1 person to look deeper and make informed decisions then I have succeeded. And I know I have succeeded many times over.

Not the authority for a COMPREHENSIVE plan- again, NOPE.

3. The resources necessary to carry out the plan. CHECK Not woth a comment.

Been hearing that last line for - what?- 3 or 4 years now? If an avalanche ever does start, it will be by the giants, and SC will be but a dust mote in THAT snowball.

:rotflmao: Yep the U.S thought the same thing about the Vietnam war (we lost), the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (while we might have won some battles we will lose the overall war).

8) We neglected one little thing Lone Wolf, we would have to change the people we were fighting against and turn them into us. That never works they are who they are, and we are who we are.

No the reasons those wars were lost or incomplete was due to political interference.

I still don't see what is wrong with 5% or even 1% reduction. According to the naysayers, evidently anything less than 100% is a failure as they refuse to give an adequate number, even when asked directly (LoneRanger). Would 100% be better? Of course! But that's a fantasy.

My analogy still stands. There are millions of speeders breaking the law every day yet only a miniscule fraction are caught. Should the cops just give up? Of course not. They also realize that 100% is a pipe dream and seeing that cop on the side of the road with somebody pulled over makes everyone else think twice.

8) Using your analogy Bazza should a private company or individual go after the speeders breaking the law. That is not your job and it could be dangerous as well as open you up to civil liability. The police and the district attorney's are not going after karaoke piracy, they have bigger problems. That leaves private company's to go after the law breakers in civil court not criminal court. The manus are not the police, they only think they are.

But that isn't what they are doing, is it. BTW an analogy is a comparison. You are mixing scenarios. SC isn't out arresting people, they are taking thieves to court for stealing their product. Try to stay on track.

How about that number? Why do you keep avoiding a direct question?

8) You're the one bringing speeders into the picture for comparison not me. What the manus are doing has nothing to do with criminal offenses, these are civil suits. You are the one trying to compare apples to oranges.

P.S. The numbers are still a joke Bazza, it is not even 1% when you calculate by the summits own numbers, the total hosts have increased 10% during the time of this legal process of the manus. The manus are a net loser there are more pirates today than when they started. This whole legal dog and pony show is a failure, by any standards.

For the same reason as he avoided explaining how he could want a particular defendant, an admitted pirate, to prevail in SC's lawsuit against her, yet continue to claim to be anti-piracy.

No amount of piracy reduction is acceptable, in his view.
