the wheels of Justice move S.L.O.W.L.Y Lone Ranger as far as the cases in California, well I DO think we shall see more of them. SC was burned and harmed by the contractor they hired. I think they have learned a lot from that issue and will be handling things a bit differently in the future.

So very slowly Athena pretty soon at least for me it won't make any difference.

May not affect you....but it will affect the industry. The problem did not occur overnight and the solution will not work overnight either

Provided the manus can hang on long enough to still be part of the eventual solution. If they implode exactly where does that leave everyone, I guess on their own. Something I have dealt with on a daily basis since I started hosting.

I can only run on hope that karaoke will be like a Phoenix and not just remain a pile of ashes

Actually Athena I don't see the ashes I was on track to have my best year ever before my health went South on me. It wasn't manus or pirates that did me in but Father Time. You'll get there someday unless the ashes just blow away. After everything is said and done "All we are is dust in the wind". Kind of reminds me of the old Irish song about the farm laborer that dies and the old farmer his boss is burying him the farmer sings, "He'll make good fertilizer and there are plenty more like him".

Hi im new on this forum but when I was on the news some of my comments were edited out, one of which
Was that I use my laptop to play filler dance music from my funkymix and ultimix subscription and that the karaoke tracks played from my laptop is played from my tracks that ive bought from several other manus legally.and also to be exact I have around 1350 cb disc and about 500 various brands, and the way my setup is at both my shows I have little room, but if you look to my right side at any show you will see my library. Sometimes I use them sometimes I dont it depends on the track.and if not in use they are hidden,and I welcome anyone to go through my library at anytime.even after all the venues and kjs including myself being called thieves,I still welcome an audit process so all parties can move on.

Welcome Karoakedj new blood is always welcome, at least that is what Count Dracula said, just a joke. It would be nice if you could be audited on your CB materials. Unfortunately there is currently no auditing system in place as far a CB material is concerned. There should be a system in place soon, so I have been told. It would seem that from your above post, running what I would call a hybrid system. In that case any type of investigation would be tricky, since the investigator would have to determine exactly which system you were playing on when the violation was observed. It is not so much a question as if you own your material as it is if you shifted that material to say a PC hard drive minus permission. Getting that permission has been rather difficult since the collapse of CB, since it is not quite clear how to get in touch with either of the plaintiffs WWD and PR, until of course you are sued. I'm quite surprised that both plaintiffs resumed these suits without an auditing system in place. Since with the mass filings it is impossible to divide the legal from the illegal. Maybe though it makes little difference if they can win on just the fact you shifted without permission. The real purpose of the suits is to drive sales of product, trying to scare the herd through examples being made into buying insurance to be able to run their respective karaoke services. The emphasis is on will be offering. Currently they are not offering any audit program, and this individual has already been named in a suit. This is kinda putting the cart before the horse, if you ask me. A proper auditing system should have been in place before they started filing this latest mass suit of theirs. It does not allow the host to clear himself prior to having to appear in court.

CB did have an audit system in place...we have one that just ran out. How do you know that the evidence was not collected when an audit was available?

Come on Athena they had a whole year to develop this case and put the proper effort in to investigate and line up there legal ducks. They have had over a year since the collapse of CB to resume their audit process. The only reason I feel they are resuming at all is because nearly every host feels that this should have been a first step, before filing suits again. There has been a backlash from all sides even former certified hosts that have had their certifications expire, and are concerned that they could be included in one of these mass suits. For appearance sake they should have at least resumed the system of auditing, it makes them look bad, that they are only after money and don't care about anything else.

Ive tried contacting the powers at be and was told someone would contact me to audit my library and was told they would call me back and set it up.that was two days ago and the papers that was served has a deadline of being responded to by my attorney or I will be found in default of lawsuit.ive tried all options to handle this with care, respect and swiftness with no luck, now the time is up tomorrow so now ive paid a retainer fee for an legal assistance from someone that is experienced in both the music industry and copyrights and ip rules and regulations, now the window for an audit is gone, now ive invested money into defending myself for no reason, now its time to ride this to the top.

KaraokeDj...I understand what an IP attorney charges,,,been there done that, ours was $250 per hour and wanted 18K as a retainer and advised if we wished to go "all the way" to exspect 75K. I hope your did not charge as much. Ours told us to request the audit (our case was with SC back when they sent a intent to sue notice prior to filing a lawsuit). I hope that you will have opportunity to show you own every disc and that this passes quickly.

Thank you athena for the advice, ive tried several times to resolve this without out having to spend more money, I would love to just have an audit and then put it behind me,I have nothing to hide, like I said before id rather not have to go further with the process of using an attorney, but its almost like I dont have a choice,im an average person that works 75 hr work week with 2 daughters and I do my shows because of my love for the bussiness,if anyway has an idea of how to resolve this or more advise, please share...
