ok. my uncle does a lot of karaoke.. roughly about 150 cd's in his collection, although he has a play list of about 50-60 songs that he likes to sing.

what i am looking for is a database / software program that can catalog the cd's really easly, and possibly have a custom field for my own numbering system (1,2,3...) because that's how we find the cd's now..

what he ultimately is looking for is a database program or software program where he can type in a song title or part of a song title, and have the results display the cd information, along with the custom number we have for that particular cd.

anything out there like this ?

I use Microsoft Access it's in Microsoft Office . just use the filter to search for the song , artist, or disk. ...i just type a few of the first letters and get instant response on what disck its on . (use the form feature)

KJPro... their website has all the discs available from most every manufacturer. Only a couple that aren't mentioned per se.

I talked to a few local KJ's about the software they were using. Most are using Music Book Deluxe. So we went out and bought it. Haven't had any problems with it. It allows cusotm numbering, but haven't need to use it. Just my 1 1/2 cents input.

I used MusicCat. It organizes CDs by artist, album and track but also provides other fields such as Album Catalog Number (what you are looking for) and Comments. Search allows all or selected fields to be used.

Two of the reasons I use this are

1) All data to be exported for use by other programa
2) If the CD has already been registered with freedb, I don't have to type the information in. Just put the CD in my PC and click. All most all of my regular CDs were already in freedb but chances are Karaoke one won't be.

Cost is $30,.00 to register and it has a 30 day evaluation period.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd get kjpro.

I think that they're database and search options is second to none. Plus it also has the songbook features, and the link to the cdg autoname program...

I use it now. I started out with access and then finally just decided to use excel.
