I use Compuhost and want to record my singers and provide them a copy of their performance. Compuhost has auto record that works pretty good but the sound quality of the recording is not very good at all. It sounds nothing like the quality of the live performance. Any suggestions. I use an HP with Audio 2000's mixer/amp 7403 1200w and a pair of peavey 1015's.

For some reason to much effects are showing up in the recording but not in the live sound and there seems to be no way to adjust the effects into the recording and still have enough for the live sound.

It is illegal. Recording singers then giving them a copy adds value to your commercial show, which is considered a commercial gain, and you can't distribute copyrighted material for commercial gain unless you have licence from the original distributor to do so, and just owning the karaoke disc does not grant you licence to distribute the work for your own commerical gain.

Sorry, you likely wouldn't ever get caught, but if you did, there are VERY hefty fines that would bankrupt you, not to mention the option of jail time.

Completely not worth it either way, IMO.

I feel there is a huge amount of scaremongering done on here. Do you honestly think that the karaoke song producers would hunt down and prosecute kdj's for recording singers singing to their tracks? Really? I think any competent lawyer would be able to get you off, even if one of them tried to sue. How could you possibly gain from giving a free disc away? Try to negotiate a bigger fee from the bar owner? Once they stopped laughing at you they would tell you just where to get off. I'm sure you'd be ok. Go on record away and have your punters impressed with your willingness to go the extra yard !

You gain by singers coming in because you record that may not have come in otherwise.

It is a competitive advantage that adds value to your show, and like I said, even though the probability of being caught is very low, it is very clearly illegal by the letter of the law.

When it comes to MY show, whether I think I will be caught or not is irellevant. I'm much more concerned with my personal integrity, which is why I follow the laws, even if I don't particularly agree with them.

The OP can do what they want. I'm not going to worry about it either way, I just wanted to give them the facts. It's illegal.
