Hey Guys, Its been awhile. Left the forum for a bit due to all the haters that used to be on here. Anyhoo....

I've got a festival coming up where I'll have a karaoke booth and I was wondering other than Justin Bieber & Taylor Swift, what are the hottest current songs/artists for kids?

Thanks in advance.

At mine they still like the Beatles and Michael Jackson. Of the newer ones at the last show I did they liked Fun's "Some Nights" and the Owl City/Carly Rae Jepson, "Good Time." Oh and Selena Gomez.

Also, play Gangham Style and Cupid Shuffle. I did a karaoke/DJ show for my GF's 4th grade Special Ed class, and they knew the dances to each. They karaoke'd Taylor Swift, JUstin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Carly Rae Jepsen, Owl City, Pink, Demi Lovato, pretty much all of the current top 20 pop, but also some top 20 modern country.

I had some requests for some hip-hop, but I wasn't prepared with clean versions, so I thought it was inappropriate. There is some more top 20 "pop" hip-hop that would be fine at a kid's event, IMO.

Good luck!

We had a 10-year-old deliver the best performance of a 3 hour party with "We Will Rock You/ We Are The Champions"...

Thanks for the advice, I just finished up 2-9 hours days of NON-STOP karaoke at the kids tent. I couldn't just tell the kids they couldn't sing something because someone had already sang it(like I do the in the bar)so I played JB's "Baby" 11 times on Saturday. Once 3 times in a row. Then I came under attack from the Swifties, that was brutal. And if I hear "Call Me Maybe" one more time I'm going to become ill. Other than that the event went well. This was my 4th year doing this event and every year I say its going to be my last but they keep hiring me back. I've even doubled my rate from the 1st year.

Sorry to sound like I'm bitchin' but its all good.

Here's a pic.-

I forgot about the repeated songs thing--I get that, also. Not only will they sing the same song over and over again, they don't care if the whole group sings it with them. If it were an "audience" type show I might worry but when it is just the kids entertaining themselves and the parents then that's what you do to make them happy. Although one time the older kids were on a field trip and we just had the kindergartner age and they did the reggae version of "Wheels On the Bus" for two straight hours. Then it's time to start leading sing alongs.....

Did have one little boy do Ella Fitzgerald's "How Deep Is The Ocean" and wondered how he learned that one. I've also had one who couldn't even read yet ask for The Scorpions, "Rock You All Night Long" and had to turn him down because "There are real little kids here today." But they know a wide variety--Animals, Beatles and songs that would be very retro even for their parents.

Edit: You have a nice set up. And I had forgotten about "Baby." That's a repeater also although many just seem to know the chorus.

Thank You Mr. Lizard for the compliments on the system. I stated to use the 18" subs but the dual 15's seem to have a better throw for outdoor shows. I knew it was rockin' because I got complaints about the volume(I think it was really the horrible singing) from some of the food vendors 150-200+ yards away.

Heres a pic from the backside.-

My partner & I used to run a children's karaoke show during a huge Summer festival. Since there was an adult karaoke show at the opposite end, we had to make sure that adult 'raoke whores didn't try to slide into the order.

We invented the idea of a CG-13 show. That meant anyone over the age of 13 was required to have a child guardian and the child was the only one allowed to have a mic.

This turned out to be incredibly effective for over four years.
