...I'm a Big Fan of Panorama's THM Discs, have a little over 500 of them. In a search to find any that I'm missing, I did find some others. Noticed the Album Artwork was different but decided to get them (Brand New & Pressed). These are from 1998 and 1999. So, they came in Monday and I decided to unwrap one, put it in the player, push play, music started but graphics came up like Super Star or Mr. Entertainment versions, not the Panorama's Top Hits Monthly graphics. No biggie! So I figured I would give it a quick rip. I pulled up the Power Burner Software and ripped one (cdg). Once ripped, I loaded the tracks into a player. The first track was good but then got to 2nd track and the Lead Vocals started up. I thought "OK, what's that about?" It is a Multiplex CDG containing 14 tracks, not 28 total (14-Instrumental and 14-Performing), just 14 tracks. I did go back and try different "rip settings" on that particular track but couldn't get the Leads Out. After going through some of these discs, it appears some tracks have leads and some don't. It's not like a need most of these tracks because I already have them on other brands but I've never had this problem before.
...Again, it's not the Panorama THM Brand, it's THM by Entertainment Network International. By the way, I can cancel them out on the Siglos Player with the Multiplex Control Slide (but it's opposite of what it should be. normally -100 but on these tracks, have to put it on +100). Can't cancel it on the Rox Box Player regardless of what settings I use....Any ideas how to get leads out during the ripping process or is that the way it's gonna be? Thanks!

anything past 1998 june is not gonna be a panorama disc.....

june 98 is when the lawsuit hit and they were forced to close doors for not licensing their music.

I would try the balance control. Most of the multiplex songs were recorded with the vocals on either the left or right channel only.

The ripping process will not remove vocals. If they are there on the CD=G Track, they will be there in the rip.

Superstar discs were one multiplex discs - like the old laserdiscs - used the digital/analog settings built into most players via the remote control menu. You click on analog and it gave you the vocals, click on digital, that same track at the same time will give you the instrumental (or vice versa - cannot remember it's been a while since I used that feature or that brand). The odd thing is they recorded the vocal tracks on the default of most players that automatically played the vocal track where you actually had to mess with the player. They may have been one of the brands that recorded left channel right channel too.
They didn't record the todays standard of one set of tracks with vocals and another separate set of tracks without.

Unless you are using cdgrip as it has multiplex options to it.

Panorama (aka Top Hits Monthly) shut down in 2008 btw.

I think that 1998 is when Panorama's THM came into the market. That's when Stellar had to change their brand name from THM to PHM, and then started their lawsuits against them for using their trademark. The last Top Hits Monthly (Country) disc I have is from June 2008, and I believe it is from Panorama. That was their last month.

...Yep, on a few tracks, looks like they mixed up the lead vocal channels. Oh well, not a big deal. I just don't ever recall seeing/hearing that from any other Manufacturer. Can still play them on Siglos, just have to remember to move the Multiplex Slider in the opposite direction of normal to play those tracks. Again, graphics look similar to Mr. Entertainer or Super Star Karaoke Tracks. Every now and then, hearing a pop in track, on a few them. Overall, they're ok.

...As far as Panorama. The only lawsuit I ever noticed was this one:
http://www.ca6.uscourts.gov/opinions.pd ... 42p-06.pdf

...Back when I chatted with Tony, from Stellar Records/PHM, he stated as long as we had original Panorama Top Hits Monthly manufacturer's cdgs, we could still play them in a commercial venues.

...Oh, by the way, thanks to all for the responses! :)

Oh they had quite a few more than that over the years, I remember several topics over in the old JOLT forums regarding them and lawsuits.

...I hear ya. In my first run with karaoke 89-01, most of us local KJs never worried about lawsuits or unauthorized copies. We only used a few of the Major Manufacturers back then (Pioneer, DK, SC & MM) and all were original discs. During my downtime years, I still had several hundred CDGs in storage. Some I sold, some were traded and had a few KJs sell me their old discs for really good prices. They just wanted to get something back for what they paid for them because they were getting out of the biz. I didn't realize anyone was suing anybody until these last few years. The first KJ I noticed using a computer was in one 2004 (only one out of many), then one in 2006-07 (only one in many). All of the rest were flipping discs. It's been interesting to say the least, once ya start diggin' up bones.

I was running disc until 08 or 09. Still do on occasion just for fun and to keep me in practice. I had the disc handling down where it was just as fast if not faster than computers because I knew where to start most songs where the music would start bypassing the splash screens. I think most software today has the ability to preset most of the music to do just that now as well. Last minute changes needed to be done before their name was called, otherwise once on stage, that is what you sung!
In a way though, it was a lot nicer when running discs. People had to look in the books to find the numbers. More newer songs were found and sung. That is the one major drawback with computers today, many kj's around here don't even use books anymore or they are so outdated that the kj encourages them just to go up and ask, which most people just think of the most common things they normally sing and not branch out.

...At times I do miss the discs. Now I can't recall being as fast as you but it was nice when ya had a karaoke multiple tray discs player and a separate multiple tray disc player for filler music. Not all of the places/KJs that I worked for had multiple tray players for anything.

...Funny you mention Karaoke Music Library Books. For the last week, during my extra time, I've almost finished with the Editing. These past couple of years I've just been adding updates to the back of the book. I tinkered with the idea of new books last year but it's about to happen in the next couple of weeks, just doing the final touch ups. Was a PITA but I went through my library with a fine tooth comb. Was able to drop it down around 50 pages.

...I do enjoy the books just like discs but hate the "hauling them around" part. Do enjoy having people look through them instead of having 6+ people around my station yelling out "put me in for ...." or "do you have...." Good thing about discs: I can rip them in any format I want. Bad thing about discs: I have to rip them. Good thing about books: I get to hand them out and do the "meet & greet" with guests. Bad thing about books: I have to haul them around and they're not cheap.

...At times, I do miss the Days of Old!!!

Unless you are using cdgrip as it has multiplex options to it.

Danny is right CdgRip will rip only the right or left channel (once you figure which side has the vocals) and the result will be a "regular CDG" with no vocals. Then, of course, it will no longer be "multiplex".

...Wow, don't know what I was thinking but I have that software along with RipNZip. Knew I had seen a choice/option on one of those programs. Thanks!

Hey Danny "G"
....Tanxs for reminding me about this software. I have 3 different ripping softwares on my laptops and knew one of them had this option but was just too lazy to look. So far it's working great! :biggrinthumb:
